A few of my coworkers have decided to foster more of a 'real' college atmosphere at our school (I wish they'd ask the science guys to help. We would enjoy it too) and today was 'Grace' an open talk between faculty and students with cookies and coffee/tea. Well not many came and I didn't get there until the end because i had THREE other meetings today but it was nice. Mostly I got to talk to art students (no surprise since the art and englist profs were heading it up), talked nano, the skill of dissection and art. I learned something today that several of the art students and the prof said, that when they paint (the prof was urging me to learn to draw my own characters) or draw that they see the world entirely differently. they mentioned driving slowly because they're so busy concentrating on shapes and textures and not on the reality of driving. I would never have thought of that. I love conversations like this where I learn things
My other meeting was with my new dean and it went well. He seemed suitably impressed with me (and gave me HIS tenure portfolio to help guide me). He also asked about that class I share with the two people who drive me insane. I told him honestly good and bad because it needed saying.
Honestly, I would love to gather up several of my coworkers and make my own college somewhere cool. If I ever did leave here, I would miss them.
Snippet of the day - "What do you think Drake is up to?" Izire said.
"Poisoning my little girl for certain."
"She's warming his bed. You know that, Father."
What sounded like a slap to the face echoed behind the door. "Shut your mouth son That halfbreed wouldn't dare defile our family."
"She went with him didn't she?" Izire replied petulantly.
"We have to put a stop to Drake's hold on her and this country," her father said, ignoring him.
She didn't hear whatever they planned. Their rage seemed to fade some and their voices fell in volume. Elin couldn't exactly join the conversation. Her father considered her his little flower, pretty to look at but otherwise empty. Charis considered that Elin's best defense. Neither their father nor Izire considered her a threat.
