I sent a letter to the provost with my thoughts on the schedule we have this year because I was precluded from the committee by said schedule. Let's see what the fall out shall be.
I really wish it hadn't rain buckets before snowing last night. Ice sucks even to people who like winter. I hope my friends on the eastern seaboard are okay with the storm pounding on you.
I did get one window draft proofed, a bit late but it was such a mild November I didn't need it. Kanda has never seen the hair dryer before. He was fascinated.
I know I shouldn't laugh but Kanda had hiccups and looked so surprised by this. Call it karma, Kanda, for dragging the chicken from the kitchen to the living room to eat it on the carpet.
The cute little deer was under the balcony again back home and was head butting the window to the basement so dad had to chase her off a little. I want in. I want to sleep on the couch.
My friend Betty has her designs on the cover of Cross Stitch this month. Check it out
here. Pretty stuff.
The 12 days writing challenge
Day 6:
Select a book on your shelf and pick two chapters at random. Take the first line of one chapter and the last line of the other chapter and write a short story (no more than 1000 words) using those as bookends to your story.
Day 7:
Write a letter to yourself telling you what you need to improve in the coming 6 months.
Day 8:
Rewrite a fairy tale from the bad guy’s point of view.I would like to do Day 6 and 8 at some point but I'm up to my eyes in stuff for the novel I DID sell so... however here's Day 7.
I need to focus on my writing more. I have the ideas, but the drive is a bit scattered. I need to find a better balance between playing online, work and writing. I do play around online too much. Either I need to slot out an hour for online and use the rest for writing. Maybe I need to take an hour on the netbook which no longer has the internet. I would also like to find more first reader at least for the erotica. I'm doing okay with the other stories with my writers' group, Link. I need to learn how to market myself. I'm not doing a good job of it.Music Monday - It's no surprise to anyone looking at my music selection box on my posts that I like Pagan music and geeky stuff (Renn music, filk songs etc). In fact, I listened to a ton of filk songs in the 80s, a by-product of geekdom. Star Trek had filk songs, Elfquest and Mercedes Lackey was a big time filk singer (all of this can be found in very poor condition on youtube, you can thank the cassette era for that).
A few years ago I stumbled across Heather Alexander and really liked her stuff. (whatever you do, don't read the comments. You'd swear there isn't a Christian alive who isn't a) a hateful idiot b) can mind their own business).
Wind's Four Quarters is definitely Pagan.
Demonsbane IS a filk for Mercedes Lackey's series.
Pretty much all the ones off this album are war related
I particularly like this song. It's perfect for my faux Viking story. It's the live version which maybe isn't quite as clean as others.
But as I was looking around to see if I could find anything more recent by Heather, I learned something rather unexpected. In 2009 Heather underwent sexual reassignment and now performs as Alexander James Adams. So I had to see what became of his voice. I think I like it even better.
Another Pagan song.
And one of my favorite Pagan songs (You'll see it again) It's his cover of S.J. Tucker song. If anyone knows the art in this, let me know. I love it.
