Did I mention it snowed?
Jan. 5th, 2016 08:59 pmJust a powdering but yesterday was definitely winter. It went down to nine and I FINALLY slept. For the first time since last March I slept deep and long. I love you winter.I love your glorious darkness too. Until a few years ago I thought maybe I was nuts. And in Athens three more of my writers group who share my love of the cold and dark so I felt less alone and then came the study that showed there is a small percentage of people who have SAD symptoms in the bright sunlight. I wasn't crazy after all.
Mom is currently inconsolable. Her TV boyfriend is leaving NCIS. OF course if it continues to suck as much as tonight who will care?
I'm taking the Chrome book back. It's incompatible with all the freeware programs AND Chrome is incompatible with my learning software at work.
This is interesting to me. print books are in and SF is hot and Young readers prefer print I feel better about my own habits now.
And speaking of books, how about we share marketing things we come across? It was interesting. The Queer SciFi comm on FB has a lot of interesting threads and one of them was about promotion. To my complete and utter shock, everyone was like I'm just not doing it.
I can't think of anything more short sighted. However, I DO understand the frustration. Nothing seems to work. There's not much in the way of tracking it, especially for the solo author. Apparently publishing houses can do stuff a self publisher can't. I do know that DSP, for instance, has abandoned the twitter take over and the facebook chats since it has not shown any uptick in sales. I sure as hell saw that when I did both of those and literally sold ZERO copies of Soldiers of the Sun as a result.
So what does work? I don't know but what I DO know is when I find marketing articles (that aren't retreading everything we've already heard before) I'll share them. Feel free to drop in and share yours too (My writerly Ways posts would be a good time to share!)
