I don't want to qualify that statement with the word 'good' because what's good to me might be crap to you. Art is probably the most subjective thing in the world. Maybe effective art?

Anyhow, today was the senior art show (or the last of them but it was the only one I knew of). As I told the head of the art department if I had a spare 400$ I would have happily bought a piece and treasured it. I go to the senior shows all the time and say something nice to the students because I know what it's like to put your heart out there and be met with indifference. I'm usually impressed with the students. Today I was blown away.

She had black and white prints that were affordable (but if I buy one more damn print...) but what I loved was her clay sculptures. Most of them were of a woman's head and shoulders with a twist, 'What I wish for' was a wishing well instead of the head, time well wasted was covered with gears and a working clock, fear takes root had a horrified expression with the roots wrapping the neck and hooking into the mouth, sink or swim's head was empty with a mechanical fish in a bowl, etc. Many weren't even for sale. I hope big things for her.

As for my student, the poster for the presentations is made. I'm happy with her research. It'll be down to me to try and get a paper out of this come summer. Wish me luck.

My lungs gave out half way through the day as they keep filling with fluid from the infection (and I can't take steroids to dry them up). Blech. It's like breathing with an elephant on your chest.
