Author lecture
Jun. 10th, 2016 11:06 pmI got to meet Cinda Williams Chima. today at the local library. Turns out her folk are from around here.
Originally I wasn't going to this, nor to Stephen King who was in Huntington today. My friends went to that. You know the same ones who left me behind for the Neil Gaiman thing. I mentioned I might like to go to see Mr. King. I was NOT invited. One of them wanted me to buy a ticket later. I did not mostly because I had hoped to be in PA by now but partially because fuck you I'm not an afterthought (well the person who wanted me to buy it is the one with cancer and was surprised I hadn't been asked).
I'm glad I went to see Ms. Chima. It was a nice talk but more importantly nearly no one showed up. I got there ten minutes before hand (as dinner took longer than it should have) and only TWO cars were there. Have I mention she's been on the NY bestseller's list? I felt really sort of bad. By the end there was about 15 people six of which were librarians. Sigh. This is why we can't have nice things.
Her talk was more directed at young people looking to start in the business but what I DID like was she put up fan art of her characters from Deviant Art and was thrilled people liked to fan art/fan fic her stuff. I told her I appreciated that.
She seemed like a nice person though she made the same mistake we did in Raleigh, didn't bring enough of #1 in her series. I would have bought it and she didn't bring any of the series I had....I've had book #1 since 2010 bought it autographed from the Tattered Cover in Denver, never read it. Oops. I will now.
I got my tomatoes transplanted. The cherokee purples are slender. The moneymakers are STILL the size they were in the beginning of May, wtf? and the Oxhearts picked up scale in the greenhouse (a type of aphid). Sigh. They're all leggy. And the beans DIED. (scale?)
The only bad point of the day other than the utter lack of sleep (STILL waking up every hour all night) is during the talk I started getting nauseous. Then better so I got a half price shake from SOnic's. two sips and I've been nauseated ever since. If I sit still I don't throw up, if I move, it all comes up. Whee. I hate hate hate my stomach
