Another crap day but it ended in chocolate
Feb. 7th, 2019 09:09 pmBetween the overheated building and students unable to even earn 50% on an exam, it was bad enough but then someone commented on my Welsh proposal. Sigh. Part of it makes me want to slap him (he and I are friendly but he also doesn't get that science does NOT work like art) but he had a very very important point, something I had wondered about. Because I'm going on sabbatical I can NOT take the release time this fall, necessary to do the research. And I won't be around to do things in the spring. SOOoooo after all that work I might be ineligible. However, I'm pretty zen about it. It just means I'll try again next year if that's the case and it's fine. It'll give me time to refine the idea.
L and I went on the first of the Jackson First Thursday things to bring people downtown. THIRTY-ONE places took part and I hit most of them. It was a success as far as I was concerned. I started at the library and went to the Lillian Jones Museum. I'm not sure still what this museum is or does (I asked and was told 'it's a rotating collection with different themes' Um okay. I will say it's haunted. I went to sixth sense (the bar), Arch and Eddies (my usual eatery where we went for dinner later), Michael's ice cream parlor and the Spot on Main, all my usual hang outs.
BUT I went to a lot of places I've never seen before, like a couple of insurance places and like three law office. WHY are there so many criminal lawyers side by side in this town?!? That made me nervous to be honest. I found two hair salons two that I had NO idea they were there in spite of driving this road every damn week. (well to be fair I'm driving and paying attention to the road). One looks like a place I might go. The other had a root beer tap in it BUT it also seemed a bit more style by biker chick.
I went into the corner pub (less scary than I thought), and several other new to me stories. I went into the jewelry store that I've not been in before (well ditto the prom store). I liked the jewelry store (gave me a mug full of candy) and they had a MUSEUM in the damn store which I want to go back and just check out. I was more interested in that than their jewelry.
So now I know new places and I was hauling chocolate like a kid at Halloween
MY HAUL!
