But it did take me a little too long to get going this morning (even though Mom called early to tell me that some weird station on Direct was showing Mystery Science Theater 3000 and I might want to record it).
The Franklin Conservatory's orchid event was lovely and I ended up buying a Fujain tea tree to bonsai. That said, I don't think I'll go again in the winter because all the outdoor stuff is dead of course. I might try Christmas though. I took a lot of pictures (I'll share another day) but on the other hand going once every few years is enough because it doesn't change that much. When I lived in Columbus I was a member and if I was still close I'd be there because they have lots of fun classes and events but I'm too far away. At this point there's more Dale Chihuly glass than flowers in this place. If I would have gone at night they light it up but...
And since I got started late and it's an hour and a half drive up, I got out of there something to four and I still had to take those 80 freaking romances to Halfprice Book store. They gave me 8 bucks for them which was fine. I mean most of these were from the 80s and omg the Native American fetishization, shudders. I'm glad they're gone.
I went from there to
Bonifacio for Filipino food. I wanted to try the chicken but they only do legs. I loathe legs. Pouts. However the pork adobo (adobo being like the signature Filipino food) wasn't hunks of pork (or I'd be eating vegetarian, which they shockingly had very little of) was baby back ribs braised in the adobo and I'm like okay I can eat that. (not a cheap place either mind you but delicious). The wait staff was great. The bartender (I to sit at the bar even though it was nearly empty because at 6 they had every table reserved until closing. I got there around 5) asked my name so she could address me and when she asked what kind of rice I wanted I said leave it at white since I can't eat it I'm diabetic. You could leave it off. She said do you want a salad instead.
I'm like OMG yes! No one's ever asked me that before. I didn't eat it all (ribs are messy) because I wanted dessert. I actually wanted halo halo but couldn't figure out why it was 12$ (for what is basically ice cream and other stuff) until the two ladies at the bar with me got it and it's HUGE, easily enough for 2. I got carioca instead which are rice flour balls, basically deep fried mochi. OMG good.
So when I went to Bonfacio's I was wearing my Attack on Titan hoodie and the teenaged waiter was SO excited. He spent at least 5 minutes talking about anime/manga with me. Then he noticed my Cymru dragon T-shirt and wanted to know if it was an anime he didn't know. Oh this is the Welsh Dragon. I was in Wales doing research last year. You are SO interesting (Something I'm sure he didn't think he's be telling an older person) And lucky me the only time a male thinks I'm interesting to talk to they're either old enough to be my dad or I'm old enough to be their mom.
I had planned to go to Trader Joe's but now it's like quarter after six. That's at least 12 miles north. I decided not to so I headed south for home but between home and there is the casino. If I had been doing better I would have stayed longer for their promotion. I ended up pounding my pint of beer because the machines were eating my cash with very little (read zero) reward). I did find out me being clever by putting my casino player's card in the glove box (after consistently forgetting it every time) didn't help. It MELTED over the summer and was too warped to get it in a machine. Sheesh.
On the way home I was once again sad that I don't live closer to Columbus (or if it was just as far away as Athens or Chillicothe) because the radio station I found was doing nothing but cover songs as a prelude to a concert next Saturday where local bands are going to cover songs by bands who have lost members to cancer and all the ticket sales go to cancer research. I'd love to do that but I'm not sure I'm up to another drive (when I'm so busy)
I'm now so behind but it was worth it.
