Poe & Greenwich
Jun. 13th, 2020 09:48 pmAnother day of not sleeping. Nothing is cleaned and I'm not packed to leave. I'm doing well. Note to self NO social media two hours before bed other than to talk in a chat with friends. Okay? OK!
Speaking of friends I lured in a few with candy and made off with them. Ha. Okay so I got a couple of people to sing up for the virtual tour of Poe's Greenwich Village. To be honest, this wasn't quite as good as last week's Central Park as far as the city itself was concerned. It was MUCH more an hour and a half lecture on Poe's life in the city. I liked it but I loved Poe. I hope my friends weren't disappointed.
Poe was interesting. To be honest I haven't read much about his life because I'm not much on biographies. I don't know why because if I listen to a lecture/watch it on TV I do enjoy it. I honestly didn't even know he lived in NYC. I knew he lived in Philly and Baltimore. I was interested in their deconstruction of some of the ugliness Griswold and a few others had painted of Poe's life that seem to have no basis in fact. It's clear Poe had depression and issues with alcohol but it looks like he wasn't nuts or an opium addict.
If they have more of these lectures, I'll let you know. They are free and now I k now if I AM ever in NYC again I'd be happier on the Central Park tour vs the Greenwich one.
And let me leave you with this San Diego Comic-con will be online and free
