Antiques and history
Aug. 5th, 2022 08:55 pmMom and I haven't had the time for anything well we have but we somehow have never really left this house for more than shopping. Anyhow it's now getting too late for anything but we went out today. We planned to go to Grandpa Joe's old fashioned candy store and to this antique store she found online.
Well we didn't know the addy so my GPS took us over hill and dale and I found out that a) Canonsburg PA has more history placards than I've ever seen in a town around here. b) there used to be a college in this town (I looked it up after the fact, Jefferson college was there from 1802-1871) c) we could have just gone thru the main avenue as it was just two blocks off right next to NAPA which we knew. Ha.
I think the lady there was wrong insisting that the place was never a house and always a business and there was a home added on later. I think it's the other way around. Regardless it was three floors and each room packed with stuff (each from a different vendor) We were there for nearly two hours and didn't get to the basement. I did find a few things for the holidays plus a little blue salt cellar. I'm a sucker for cobalt and ruby glass.
They had some Breyers (plus a horse from the 1930s) but I don't know enough to know if their prices are high low or on spot. I did consider a few of the old ones with metal reins but like I said I don't know what I should (or shouldn't) be paying for those. I'm not into this but I have friends who are.
WHile we were in there it started pouring and thunder/lightning. Well it was a parking lot a block off the candy store so we skipped that and went to the OTHER candy store where we've been doing for decades (I need to post the pictures from there) Sarris Chocolates is good (quality on the decline as chocolate sources are declining and everyone has to wax it up to stretch it). THey have a numbered parking lot. 32 places were already filled. At 230. On a week day. It was a mad house inside. Did I miss a holiday? We got some jelly belly beans and a little chocolate and that was it. I never saw mom go so fast.
