I wish I knew how to make AMVs. Even from the point of casual viewer, I can tell to do this well, it takes more time than I have to invest. At some point I do have to be honest and admit I can't do it all no matter how much I might like to.
Do you have some favorite AMVs? Want to share them? I am discovering something with The Owl House fandom, fan made videos and between this one and Legend of Vox Machina I'm seeing fan songs and it's been a long LONG time since I've seen them and have them not be parody songs (nothing wrong with those. I adore them). But let's leave the fan songs and fan videos for another talk.
Let's just talk your standard AMV. I know there are AMV exchanges but I don't take part because I don't think it's fair of me to ask and not offer (and I would suspect several wouldn't allow for that anyhow). As with anything in fandom you have a wide range of talent and beginners to old hands.
I'm happy to see and share most any level because everyone has to start somewhere and some of the newbies could use encouraging. Most will get better. That used to annoy me on the old Livejournal Buffy fandom hey day, there were several communities that existed to mock what they decided were 'bad' stories (and yes some were just that) but I always felt bad (and said no when asked to join) because some of the fandom was young. Imagine being 13 and putting your story out there and someone links it to a community for mocking. LJ's Buffy fandom is one of the reasons I a) got more cautious about joining up with fandoms b) tended to stick to shippy ones (i.e. ships I like) c) scouted for well modded gen ones.
Anyhow I've been looking at ones I assume are beginners because they often have a song with the voices from the show intact if muted instead of stripping it out or they are just clips to songs the amv maker liked with no real rhythm or reason. Then we have some truly expert ones where the clips match the song so well it's hard to believe they weren't made for each other.
Over the years I've noticed some songs get all the love and often they are surprising songs, ones I've never heard on the radio and often wonder how they're found. Any song you've noticed that is used a lot. Here's mine. I first heard it shuffling through The Avengers videos a few years back and I actually like the song (and in all this time I've still never heard it anywhere but in AMVs oddly enough) To prove my point about all the love I put a few of Barns Courtney's Glitter & Gold amvs here, all from fandoms I know and mostly watch. There are SO many I had to cut it.
