What makes it worth it

Today one of my little girls hugged me and asked me to please be the 6th grade teacher next year (because she'll be in 6th then). Another wanted me and our student helpers to sign her t-shirt.

My problem boy took an even worse turn today (also ended up wearing his glue/food coloring pre-slime fixings) and when I reported it (because this needed reported up the chain it was that disturbing with me and my fellow prof) turns out I know his mom and grandma. Unfortunately neither came to get him today so she'll report it next week.

Next week is the 7-12 crowd. I will not be doing that.

My friends TH and BB took me out for dinner for my birthday as they never get to because it's in the summer and I'm usually gone. We also went for ice cream and just as we were wrapping it up we see someone going to our table. TH asked did we have to leave because they're closing up and then I got a good look at her. She was one of my first students here. She's now a pediatrician. (almost everyone in her class went to medical school, ironically my best students came when I was just learning to teach). She was very excited to catch up with us and vice versa.

At first she wasn't sure it was us until she heard me talking (my voice is annoying and loud) And then I thought about it. Yeah she's at the age I was when she first met me. Yikes. She bought all our ice creams in spite of our protests.
