Writerly Ways
Feb. 18th, 2024 11:10 pmBefore I get into it. I want to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to
seta_suzume!!

You get the same kitty I gave to LDP for his birthday yesterday. Hope you had a great day.
Holding my breath on the release of my novel These Haunted Hills I've been trying to do local pictures of places that appear in the novel my blog but who knows how much traction that has. The cover art is still wrong but it's as good as it's going to get I suspect. That's okay. I hope it does well. The last time I thought a novel would do well it was still born (my vampires in the Vegas thing. My heart is still broken over that one)
Speaking of marketing and broken hearts, I got a 'price break' on Goodreads Giveaways telling me how it'll give the book advanced buzz and a following by those who wanted to win it. The price break made me about vomit into my mouth. 100$ for the privilege of giving away my book. My first books, I used this and this was FREE. Okay I don't mind them wanting some money20$, 30$ sure. over 100? No. Because you know what, I had thousands add my books. Want to know who bought them? I didn't make back the advance that's how many. My current publisher will no longer use Netgalley for the same reason the cost was not worth the amount of purchases after the fact.
I have no idea who is doing the blog tour for my book (You'd think someone would tell me that so I could add them to MY blog posts. I might have to do a google search to find them) but I have no idea also how useful that is.
And this is why I am SO hesitant to self publish. If I want it on GR giveaways 100$ (not sure how much Netgalley wants), a few hundred on a cover, not to mention the cost of an editor. What if I need a sensitivity reader? My book could cost me hundreds of dollars and if I make what I've made in the past, I'd be in a freaking hole. It's rather depressing.
BUT I have to hope for this book. Word of mouth counts. If you think you or your friends would like a paranormal romance with a rural setting, point them at These Haunted Hills and thank you.
