In the last two days I've spent nearly 20 hours working on editing Blood Red Roulette and I would have skipped this except this came across my FB feed yesterday. Let us talk about professionalism. Or how NOT to be professional.

Yes this has been verified as true. If you want to see the full discussion you can find it here

Yeah soooo, one I have no idea what Goodkind is bitching about. That's a great cover. Even if it did suck, you don't do this. I've been lucky. I've had wonderful covers but even if I didn't, the time to complain about it is in the production stage. I find it hard to believe that a big name publisher would give the author even less input than I would get as an indie (but maybe that's true because sometimes I've seen covers that made me wonder).

What you don't do is embarrass the artist on twitter. Judging by comments Goodkind is sort of known for being a pain in the ass. One of my friends asked a good question, why hasn't the publisher stepped in and put a stop to it? (maybe they have by now). I'm not a huge goodkind fan but this was enough that even if I had been a fan, I'd stop reading right about now.

Professionalism, it matters. Hell being a decent human being matters, dogging someone out like this is just nasty.

Opinion: Sell Your Books, Not Your Soul – with Collaborative Digital Marketing I've been involved with collaborative marketing for quite some time now and I did see that 12 Slays of Christmas going around because I get the author's newsletters. I would love to try that some day. It would be like me, [personal profile] evil_little_dog [personal profile] silvrethorn, [personal profile] kiramaru7, [profile] tinhutlady & Betty all picked a theme and wrote long novellas/short novels based on a theme (The Mothman Still Flies, Werewolves in the Americas, Murder at the Con you get the idea). What I've been seeing is it sells for 99cents for the first few days then up to a more reasonable price then at the end of a year or 6 months, we get to sell the novels separately. (Speaking of which at some point during this year I need to reedit and self publish my short story from Once Upon a Time in the Weird West anthology. and now that I think about it, this IS that kind of collaborative authorship).

wow! That's horrible thing to do!! We were working with a graphic designer recently and we weren't too pleased with the end result. But we worked things out. And are fine with the end product. We realised going in we all had very different expectations. But would never think to do this! wow....

Goodkind is known for being an asshole (and for writing laughably bad fantasy himself, so he's got no room to throw stones.)

I tend to get the impression that you get more input as an indie author than as a pro (and this is based on seeing how you have some interaction, via the publisher, with the artists assigned to cover your work.) (I was always having to tell my pal Alejandro 'if I were getting published by some big name publisher, I'm sure I could mention you, but they'd probably already have someone in mind')......

.....but THAT BEING SAID, what a jackass-tastic way to treat someone who collaborated on your book in this manner. I mean, woah, someone's truly entered the entitled jerk phase of their career (assuming he wasn't there already).

Yeah, I thought probably (but if I were actually in a position to mention Alejandro, I don't see what it would hurt to try ^^;).
