Writerly Ways
Feb. 25th, 2018 10:27 pmIn the last two days I've spent nearly 20 hours working on editing Blood Red Roulette and I would have skipped this except this came across my FB feed yesterday. Let us talk about professionalism. Or how NOT to be professional.

Yeah soooo, one I have no idea what Goodkind is bitching about. That's a great cover. Even if it did suck, you don't do this. I've been lucky. I've had wonderful covers but even if I didn't, the time to complain about it is in the production stage. I find it hard to believe that a big name publisher would give the author even less input than I would get as an indie (but maybe that's true because sometimes I've seen covers that made me wonder).
What you don't do is embarrass the artist on twitter. Judging by comments Goodkind is sort of known for being a pain in the ass. One of my friends asked a good question, why hasn't the publisher stepped in and put a stop to it? (maybe they have by now). I'm not a huge goodkind fan but this was enough that even if I had been a fan, I'd stop reading right about now.
Professionalism, it matters. Hell being a decent human being matters, dogging someone out like this is just nasty.

silvrethorn,
kiramaru7,
tinhutlady & Betty all picked a theme and wrote long novellas/short novels based on a theme (The Mothman Still Flies, Werewolves in the Americas, Murder at the Con you get the idea). What I've been seeing is it sells for 99cents for the first few days then up to a more reasonable price then at the end of a year or 6 months, we get to sell the novels separately. (Speaking of which at some point during this year I need to reedit and self publish my short story from Once Upon a Time in the Weird West anthology. and now that I think about it, this IS that kind of collaborative authorship).

Date: 2018-02-27 05:31 pm (UTC).....but THAT BEING SAID, what a jackass-tastic way to treat someone who collaborated on your book in this manner. I mean, woah, someone's truly entered the entitled jerk phase of their career (assuming he wasn't there already).
