Science fair
Mar. 24th, 2018 11:29 pmI had to be up before the sun to go judge the science fair (well the biomedical part of it). I think it went splendidly. I'm so happy to see SO many bright young people. I saw some really cool stuff. One young man came up to me afterward to ask why I hadn't given him a perfect score (he missed it by 2) It was more sincere concern (and sadness) than special snowflake crap. I told him why (it wasn't as original as it could have been and that counted) but told him he was a good presenter, that his ideas for expansion of his project needed to be done because he had a great idea and he is already going on to the all-state and he could try to get it done for then. He was happy with that. He also had big plans to be a surgeon and understood the concepts and could pronounce them better than my students.
Afterward, we all went up to Arch and Eddies. Had delicious beers and buffalo sliders.
And now back to the edits. Sobs.
