All sorts of good news

Yesterday we had the honors dinner for the honors students. I was both embarrassed and ashamed that there were exactly SIX faculty members at this thing. That is cold. At least two of them had not a single representative from their schools there. I go every year whether or not I know them. It's only 15 measly dollars. that was the bad. The good is we had six honors students and one of them, a business major who spoke to me for much of the dinner, remembered me from when I helped with the honors science class.

Good news at work also includes the fact that my promotion has passed the committee. It still has to go to the dean, provost, president and the board but usually they just rubber stamp it. The only way I see my promotion failing is the university literally cannot afford to pay me (and the other two in science who are also up for promotion). I'd love to say that's me being paranoid but it's not. Crosses fingers.

And the good news I've been dying to say but haven't because I didn't have a contract (I still don't but I DO have the edits, the person responsible has been ill) I've had a steampunk short story accepted under my non-Jana pen name (i.e. real name). It's middle grade story set in Deadwood with a diverse cast. It'll be out much later this year and thanks to evil_little_dog & tinhutlady for the beta they gave it.
