Book Festival
Apr. 14th, 2018 10:07 pmWent to the Ohioana book festival today (it's for Ohio authors and/or books set here). I stood there in the Book Loft (great book store in Columbus)'s line to checkout after getting books signed, I was gawping at people who managed to get out of there with just ONE book. What sort of Philistine goes to a book festival and buys one book? I bought my weight in books if you must know.
The book festival was a great lot of fun, though I have to say there needs to be a bit more variety. Lots of kid books, cozy mysteries and some fantasy. Romance has slipped some and there's a smattering of poetry and non fiction. There were more female authors than male but I think I saw three African American authors and zero Latino or Asian. There was zero LGBT representation. Now, last year I asked about being there with LGBT books and those in charge were all for it. So I'm not sure how they get all their authors. If they're hunting them down, they need to do a better job of diversity. If authors approach them, there is definitely an unevenness. I decided against trying to sell there. There were too many kids for me to be comfortable with the erotic content of my books. Also while I write gay characters, I'm not so it would feel very weird to have a heteronormative cis gendered female being the only person with LGBT books.
I got to sit and talk briefly with authors I've met before Laura Bickle, Cinda William Chima and Leanne Renee Hieber (all fantasy/urban fantasy authors). Leanne sees me around the steampunk circuit so she's getting so she recognizes me. I'll be seeing her in two weeks where we can relax over beers in steampunk garb.
I bought SO MANY books. I'll tell you another day when I'm not exhausted.
I did head up to Macy's but found nothing much.
I also went to the casino Won and loss. My favorite game has been rotated out. I found a new one that was paying well, a phoenix related one. Only lost 15$ by the time I left.
The only sour note was my insulin. I'm getting VERY fed up with these needles. I only brought one and once again I couldn't get it thru my skin. I tried all over the damn place. Stuck myself about 12 times but it was SO dull it was like trying to push pencil led through me.
