Feast of the Flowering Moon
May. 25th, 2018 09:47 pmI haven't been to a wacipi (pow wow) in years. I used to go often back in the day and I'm not usually here to go to the one in Chillicothe. This was the only day it wasn't supposed to be thunderstorming so I drove up there.
Bright and sunny and in the freaking NINETIES. We haven't had a spring. We went from snow to summer. I made it through the dancing and that was it. I was there exactly an hour before the heat drove me off. They weren't going to dance again for about two hours up against a band I wanted to hear but I couldn't handle it. Six hours later and I'm still vaguely nauseous from the heat. The dancers were very good though, two who have won world's best prizes and a few from Canada who probably melted in their regalia.
The vendors were mostly crap which was good. I did get a spice mix that was relatively cheap, a hunk of Labradorite and a found a vendor who carved found bone and antlers into pendants. He also carved deer/sheep/goat skulls and turtle shells into intricate patterns and made lamps of them, interesting but not for me. I was going to get an ankle or Thor's hammer when I saw a small bone heart. It's carved to look broken and then repaired with copper. I had to have it.
From there I went to Lowes where heat impaired judgement made me buy five plants (Shishito pepper, a cherry tomato, strawberries, ichiban eggplant and an heirloom squash). Say a prayer that the school's greenhouse works because that's where everything is going to be.
I then took shelter in the haunted
Crosskeys tavern (don't try the main website for them, it's been hacked). I had a nice reuben and a Guinness but no signs of Harold.
It's a shame Chillicothe is so far from work. It has wonderful old homes. Too bad also that a) the paper plant makes it smell b) that paper plant is closing which will make the depression there even worse c) has a serial killer on the loose.
I had fun even if the heat nearly murdered me.
grass dancer
Jingle dress dancer, there are 365 metal bells on those dresses
traditional shawl dancer
little grass dancer
jingle dress dancer
fancy dancer
Fancy shawl

fancy dancer (award winning)
I somehow missed the hoop dancer when I uploaded these. Also they had tiger ambassador's there from the zoo and I thought OMG MY DREAM! I didn't go in to feed them because it was 20$ and I was feeling cheap (mom yelled at me)

The tavern
Kanda wants to eat the labradorite
The necklace (and Kanda STILL wanting to kill that stone)
