When you don't win. Mom and I went to the casino and we always have a hard limit of where we'll stop gambling and a soft limit we'd rather not go over but could. Well that soft limit went by in 10 freaking minutes. Ouch. Needless to say it went to the hard limit. At least dinner was good. Love that make your own crepe bar.

The short story is away for consideration so here's hoping Into Thin Air (thanks for the title Betty) makes it!

It seems like so much work for so little pay off, these short stories but I'm hoping they'll lead to something more. THat said I should get my ass onto working on SPlinters because I've not looked at a single comment from Link yet. Hell Kati told me to my face all the problems but I didn't write it down and now I have no idea what she said.

That said I really should give that first chapter out to a few others. It's been reworked at least three times and it's still all wrong.


Now I feel a bit better about the Bufffy the reboot

I think that something in the future would be interesting but after the big to-do about Joss being attached, he really isn't according to this article. He's still just sitting on the side line concentrating on another story. Then again since he's been such a misogynistic dickhole maybe I don't care that he's not that involved. (You know for years I said he wasn't the feminist he wanted us to think he was just based on random things he said in interviews, guess I wasn't far off). Maybe it's worth looking at. That said, I'm still sick to death of reboots and judging by the lukewarm Comicon reception (which I bet took them by surprise) I'm betting the rest of us are too

I would guess that they'd be better off telling new stories with new characters in the world that already exists rather than a straight reboot. And you probably need Joss attached to some degree for that.

But it will ultimately live or die on whether they have stories that are relevant to today (I doubt a 55-year old Whedon is in touch enough for that) and can hit a sweet spot in being connected enough to the old show to hold up but original enough to bring in new fans.

Buffy fandom is difficult.

Good point. I know nothing of this fan turned showrunner, how old she is, what she's done before so I have no point of reference.

I would like to see an older Slayer personally. I don't need another CWesque teen drama. I also don't need it darker. I'm getting sick of grimdark, almost as sick as I am of reboots.

And you're SO right, Buffy fandom is difficult. Are we taking the comics as canon? If so then there's no L.A. I'd almost rather see Fray being the show they make but it's probably too expensive (then again we are getting a lot of SF lately)

Things would depend upon who your target audience is. Unless you are narrowcasting toward hardcore fans, I would think you'd want to skip over the comics continuity and go for the most streamlined amount of prior show backstory too. You don't want to have to explain too much to new viewers.

Just the basic exposition from the first Buffy Pilot + 20 years ago there was a girl who changed things.

you may be right. I get the impression that they went into comic con prepared for praise and acceptance for this and Josh's steampunk sounding thing (which I am interested in but won't see since I don't have HBO nor want it) and were shocked to not get it.

I think it's kind of hilarious that the announcement didn't get the reaction they were expecting. I also think that they attached Joss' name because they had to (does he own creative rights?) or because they thought it would draw viewers, but they must be forgetting the turn his fortune has taken with the fans.

I do too. I think that he wanted this and at first it sounded like he was going to do this project then the other one got the green light so he dropped this (but yes the creative rights are his).

Exactly. Honestly I think he's trying to get back out there after that fan backlash against his personal crap
