Two people did recognize me as Madame Christmas today. That said, I think I need a break from Tsubasacon. For one it's getting pricey for what it is. I don't mind paying 40$ to get in so much if there's something to day.

This year most of it was more 'workshop' sort of things, how to sew, how to be a voice actor, how to do this or that. I have no interest in that. So that leaves the game room (which is a) packed b) not nearly as much fun alone) and the vendors.

But the vendor quality has been slipping a lot. Now it's 90% jewelry makers and artists. I have nothing against that but there's almost nothing left of actual merchandise. I know amazon, ebay etc have destroyed the vendors a lot but still, I've been to much better ones recently.

Now, to be fair this is a SMALL con which is why I cut it slack but if the venue is making them charge bigger con prices I might as well go the bigger con in Columbus.

Of course, another problem is, I'm just not that taken with most of the anime I've seen lately. I like them yes but I haven't felt moved to collect on them (then again like I need ANY more crap). The guy with the wallscrolls was there and there was a nice one of Bungo Stray Dogs and another of Yuri! On ice but where am I going to put them? That's why I'm not that thrilled with the artist rows either because I have no wall space left.

I did talk to two of them, hoping they'd turn some of their original things into web comics or something. One had these great steampunk ladies and could tell me their story but hasn't DONE anything with it (sad face) and another who had a pierced lovely vampire who was opening his chest to show flowers within and I loved that. I damn near did buy it. She plans to do something web comic wise in January. I hope so. I'd love to see it.

I did buy a few things for me and ELD's birthday next year, very little things. The T-shirt vendor (only one this year) just had more generic, if funny, shirts. Heck the Books a Million I went to afterward had more geeky ones.

There was one older vendor who quoted Harcourt Henry Mudd at me and when I recognized it he lit up and talked to me for a while (speaking shockingly well through a stoma) too bad he was selling posters i just have no room for.

So while I had fun, I also felt like I had more or less pissed away 40$.

The real hightlight for me was Carolina Manga library It travels from con to con and you can just sit and read. If not for that I'd have been out of there in like under 2 hours. In fact, I had set aside manga to donate to them but then had to move it for repairs in here and lost track of where it is (here? in my storage shed?). I DO plan to send them some. You can find out how at the website. If you have old manga you want to get rid of, consider them. She's trying to set up libraries in children's hospitals now.

I'll post pictures and links for vendors after tomorrow and just do both fests at once.
