It's Diwali. When I first moved here, the Hindu population in the towns and on campus really put some effort into sharing that with everyone (which is exceedingly White Christian, Baptist more often than not). They had music and dance performances and hosted a meal of traditional foods. I loved it. Many of my friends who were active in this are no longer on campus, having retired.
Then it just suddenly disappeared. No more cultural exchanges, no food. We only have three Hindu faculty members now and I don't think there is much interest from the non-faculty members who used to organize this.
It's sad. I miss it.
Snippet He bobbed his head not knowing what else to do. He hurt all over and if a mage could help him, he could stand having her seeing him naked. He struggled with the ties of his pants, always missing his hand when he had to deal with them. Zvon managed to get his trousers and boots off. He tossed his shirt onto the floor. He nearly slipped in the tub in his haste to submerge himself.
When she heard the water slosh, Tanyth faced him. Before she could say anything, Arria poked her head in and said, “Tea’s ready. Do you need help? I can get the splinters out of his arm.”
“Splinters,” Zvon squeaked nearly popping out of the tub. “Where?” Panic crushed him back against the copper tub.
“In your arm, in the scrapes. You probably got them from the sidewalk,” Arria pointed to his stump.
“I can’t...it can’t...” he stammered.
Tanyth dropped a hand on his head. “Shhh, it’ll be fine. I’ll take care of it. Arria, you mix the salve I started. Zvon, I know you have no reason to trust me but I need you to hold your breath.”
“I don’t understand.” Zvon stared up at her. How had he allowed himself to be in this position? She could do anything to him but what would it matter if she did?
