So competitive
Nov. 20th, 2018 12:53 amAt the writers group meeting mostly all I did was talk and didn't get anything written. Literally 200 words in an hour in a half. Then two back to back word wars and I have 1600 words.... but I fell short of 30K by less than 500 words. Sigh.
“But won’t your father be upset if your mother shows up with a ragamuffin like me?”
Arria snorted. “It won’t be for the first time. There’re at least three others. But Dad’s dead so you don’t have to worry about that.”
Zvon flinched. “I’m sorry.”
“Me too. Dad was really great. He was murdered.”
“How horrible. My mom’s gone too. Part of me really misses her but I also barely remember her so that’s weird right?”
“Nah, we have connections to family no matter what.”
He jumped again as something howled loudly, banging on the car again. He barely kept from grabbing the pillow and hiding his face like a little kid. Arria stood up, pulled the blanket out from under him and covered him then stretched out with him.
“It’s okay, it’s dying,” she whispered, putting her arms around him.
Zvon shivered. “How can you tell?”
“I just can,” she replied.
He shut his eyes. What had he gotten into? His father might have beaten him but demons didn’t come after them. “Why is it here? Why is it attacking?”
“It might have been sent after Mom. It’s been known to happen.”
“I don’t like this.”
“Me either. It’s not always this crazy, I promise.”
He didn’t know what to say to that.
A noise sounded right at the door to their car and he nearly cried out. Zvon wrapped an arm around Arria, trying to pull her close. "I wish I had a knife or something, just in case."
She patted his hand. "It'll be fine."
