Writerly Ways
Dec. 9th, 2018 02:38 pmI finally have something to day for my writerly ways instead of just posting links. And that is be kind. It takes nothing to do that but be kind. And that includes other authors. Why in the world do you want to drag them down? Yes I know some see them as competition but in many ways they are not. They are a building block to your own career, otherwise why would most agents/publisher/blurb writers ask you 'what story is yours most like?' (Actually I hate that but that's a post for another time)
We all probably remember earlier in the year when some author decided to try and copywrite a very basic word as her series title and was sending out I'm gonna sue you notices to people and picked on someone she shouldn't have (i.e. a big name author).
Well it's happened again. Not the copywriting thing but someone shooting themselves in the foot. Witness Tomi Adeyemi,a debut author whose novel Children of Blood and Bone is doing very well for itself, winning awards, making it onto talk shows, already optioned for a movie. I mean that's a first time novelist's dream. And then she accuses Nora Roberts of riding on her title's coat tails (Nora has one Of Blood and Bone).
Blinks. For one titles are so common Popsugar has a challenge in 2019 read two books with the same title.
Blinks. NORA FREAKING ROBERTS. If you can't be kind and you have to bitch slap someone, be sure you know who you're hitting. It reminds me of one of my childhood friends who for some idiot reason threw a stick into a herd of Black Angus and hit the damn bull. He didn't know the bull was there. I had to polevault over a barbed wire fence (didn't quite clear it, still have scars).
Nora Roberts has been writing for 30 odd years. She has like nearly 300 novels to her name (or J.D. Robb her other pen name). Wiki says she's worth nearly 400 million dollars (OMG!) She needs to ride noone's coattails. Nora's response to this fiasco is great. You can read it here
So authors be kind to each other. Help each other rise. Don't knock them down
And to the author's here I'll repeat what I have on my author FB, Popsugar's challenge is a good way to get your books in front of new readers. If you have something that fits those prompts let me know and I will add it to the appropriate forum. Who knows? It might result in a sale.
It's been a month since my novel released. I have newbies to my journal so if you want to check it out and boost the signal thanks.

Blurb Arrigo Giancarlo’s friends think he's a rich young man with the unusual job of paranormal investigator, working with his psychic assistant in Las Vegas. In truth he’s a two-thousand-year-old vampire and member of the Chiaroscuro, a group of Supernaturals dedicated to keeping humanity safe from the more dangerous of their kind. He’s also openly bisexual… but alone.
When he spots Luc St. John in a bar, Arrigo is intrigued. What begins as an effort to repay the kindness shown to him in the past quickly turns into much deeper feelings for the suffering and displaced Cajun. For Luc’s part, he feels too poor, too uneducated, and too bound to his hateful family to ever be worthy of elegant and cultured Arrigo.
An old enemy, Eleni, blames Arrigo for murdering her true love. On the anniversary of that death, she’s back to take revenge. As Arrigo’s closest friends fall victim to savage attacks, he fears nothing will keep Luc safe. Should he break both their hearts and let Luc go, or is it too late? If Luc’s already in Eleni’s sights, Arrigo knows that like most things in Vegas, the odds are against him.
