And now the fear creeps in

cornerofmadnessJust a little, just enough. It's after 10 and it's not snowing. No, it's raining and you see that scares me. It's supposed to get bitterly cold. When this happens around here I lose power for days.. All the food prepping in the world doesn't help when you're freezing. But it gets worse.
You see, I nearly died a decade ago. No lie, straight up nearly died in this apartment. In 2009, there was an ice storm. Inches of ice covered everything. It took me three days to free my vehicle from the ground. The power was out for a week. About day two my landlord tried to help.
Yep you guessed it, carbon monoxide from the space heater. Luckily I didn't trust it and had cracked a window. I still nearly died. I should have gone to the hospital. I escaped to my secretary's mother's house (she had power by then). I was ill with CO symptoms for about 2 weeks.
I'm fine with snow. Hell, WI was WAY colder than here but the rain that will become ice I get scared. I need to find a house. It has to have either a natural gas fireplace or a wood burner. I need to have that.
The odd thing is, I love winter and I hate this feeling. It wouldn't be so bad if the power lines weren't so old and breakable here. That we had reliable or large repair crews. That I wasn't 100 electric in this place.
