It finally happened.
Jan. 25th, 2019 09:55 pmI finally found something at Arch and Eddie's I hated. For the newbies, A&E is a local bar/restaurant that not only do I love, it's one of the few all my friends agree on and my brother and his wife insist on when they make their once a year trip here. They have a new menu and I got the flat bread appetizer (which is more than enough for dinner for me) It had pesto sauce, tomatoes, garlic and chicken with a balsemic reduction. Sounds yummy right? Nope. Cold tomatoes, raw garlic (which I'm okay with) and chicken that smelled and tasted like it was snuggled up with the cod special for tonight. Blech. One of my students was my waitress so I didn't feel like making her take it back. I probably should have. (that said I DO need to start putting balsemic reductions on more things. God knows I have gallons of that stuff around here.)
I had an interesting conversation with my students today. One wants to leave nursing and try med school. He seems motivated and is asking the right questions if nothing else. Anyhow it led into a discussion of how ill-prepared so many in his generation are for college. Another student chimed in but he's older, certainly closer to 30 than 20 and probably ex-military unless i miss my guess. His attitude was the whole everyone gets a trophy, everyone gets multiple chances to get something right without penalty. to my surprise the 18 year olds agreed. Some of them are frustrated by this. Some are very upset that so many of their friends/siblings refuse to work or go to school and only want to play video games. (WHo doesn't, right?) It was interesting to see some of the things I think being echoed by students. All I can tell them is they're going into a job where there aren't second chances. If they mess up, they are going to hurt someone. It's why I'm so tough on them (again for the newcomers, I teach A&P to pre-meds and to nursing and allied health students. I need to prep them to be on their game as much as possible).
So for my next soundtrack, let's give you the one for my latest novel Blood Red Roulette I'll be honest, this one was hard to come up with and I was never quite happy with it but it worked for motivating me so that's all that mattered.
I picked vampire songs (as this is my Vampires in Vegas novel) which was pretty easy. Luc is a displaced Cajun and he loves Cajun and country music so again, easy. Arrigo is an ancient Roman vampire...who refused to tell me what music embodied him. What are you into besides Classical? Nothing. Jazz? death metal? WHAT? He didn't get many songs because he was an asshole. (When isn't he? - Siobhan)
If you want to know more about the novel, here you go. (And since I started this post, my blood sugar crashed out and I had to eat all the things to get out of hypoglycemia)

Blurb Arrigo Giancarlo’s friends think he's a rich young man with the unusual job of paranormal investigator, working with his psychic assistant in Las Vegas. In truth he’s a two-thousand-year-old vampire and member of the Chiaroscuro, a group of Supernaturals dedicated to keeping humanity safe from the more dangerous of their kind. He’s also openly bisexual… but alone.
When he spots Luc St. John in a bar, Arrigo is intrigued. What begins as an effort to repay the kindness shown to him in the past quickly turns into much deeper feelings for the suffering and displaced Cajun. For Luc’s part, he feels too poor, too uneducated, and too bound to his hateful family to ever be worthy of elegant and cultured Arrigo.
An old enemy, Eleni, blames Arrigo for murdering her true love. On the anniversary of that death, she’s back to take revenge. As Arrigo’s closest friends fall victim to savage attacks, he fears nothing will keep Luc safe. Should he break both their hearts and let Luc go, or is it too late? If Luc’s already in Eleni’s sights, Arrigo knows that like most things in Vegas, the odds are against him.
