I've been thinking a lot about them lately, more than is usual for me. Mostly it's been the deaths: Peter Tork, Luke Perry, Jan Michael Vincent. It doesn't help that I'm feeling my own mortality now that my friends and I have aged into that time of our lives when we start losing parents, siblings and friends. And then our childhood starts dying off too.

I'll be honest. I'm not much for celebrity and there are very few that would elicit more than oh that's sad. (Leonard Nimoy being one of them) Part of me doesn't want to know that much about them because I'm always afraid that I won't like them or worse, they're going to be someone I hate.

On the other hand, that last thing turns out to be important to me. I do 'vote with my dollars' and I'll be damned if I'm giving money to someone who stands for things I hate. This came up in talking with all_choseny and someone we had liked turned out to be kind of racist (I had forgotten when that news had dropped because he hasn't done anything in a while). I remember being so sadly disappointed when Mel Gibson had his prejudiced melt down and haven't seen a movie of his yet (and that btw is how I learned just how prejudiced Prejudice Girl is, me saying I wouldn't see his movies when she asked about that Jesus one).

So yeah if they are homophobic, misogynistic, racist or just plain batcrap crazy (looking at you Rosanna, I never did like you but how many people are you going to blame for you getting fired?) I do want to know that because I don't want to buy their books/movies/tv shows etc. Other than that I'm probably good.

I would, however, like to know about their projects. For instance evil_little_dog told me I should ask shanachie_quill about Christian Kane's cooking show. I would like to know about that (Also I do love his singing voice but you do have to like country music for that).

I've signed up for Camp Nano in April. Anyone else doing that? Also getting excited for my fandomtrumpshate story

Ha! Thanks for the shout. I don't do a lot of the celebrity following like a lot of my friends on FB do for fun. There's like a handful of celebrity deaths that hit me hard. Aaliyah, MJ (despite everything that is coming out about him, I had some really great childhood memories thanks to his music), and Paul Walker are just a few that got me. I felt especially floored when Aaliyah died because she was only 4 years older than me at the time and I couldn't believe someone so young could die just like that.

I was in the middle of watching Lois & Clark and now I have no interest in finishing a rewatch because of what I know about him. I also just recently added Liam Neeson to the list and this makes me sad because I love his movies. I was looking forward to the new MIB movie. Now I refuse to watch it because of him. I get that he tried to share a story about revenge, but I thought the story became less about revenge when he admitted that he went out looking for a random black man to kill. That's horrible and scary and I don't care if it happened 40 years ago.

I felt the same way about Mel, too. But he can get the finger along with Rosanne. I never really watched her show. I was into the Cosby's which I think was a network competitor. Lately she just keeps putting her foot in it. SMH.

I want to sign up for camp nano. But I failed so miserably with Nanowrimo in November that I am gun shy.

Heath Ledger's death bothered me too (and yeah I loved MJ's music but I was never that into him as a person)

Yeah I get Liam was trying to share a deep dark thought to show how it was wrong but the idea you were running around looking for a random black man to kill it terrifying.

And since you mentioned it, Cosby. I loved him. I've seen him in person and now... geez

So much agreement --- generally speaking, I don't dig into the lives of celebrities, and when I do find out that one has done something really reprehensible, I try to avoid giving them money. :P

Being where I am and having had some of the jobs I've had, I've worked with some lower level celebs over the years (even now today) and it sort of ruined the fangirl days of my teens in a way because, while obviously they are people with all their flaws, but people driven to the limelight tend to be from the same series of molds and they're not always so great. So yeah, I get you on the celebrity stuff and not following them really.

yeah, my sister in law had a lot of that same sort of experience working for the local amphitheater and meeting a crap ton of singers (made me lose all respect for Buffet but at least Jerry Garcia was nice)
