Roach Coach
May. 11th, 2019 09:37 pmI went to the roach coach Food Truck festival in Athens. I almost didn't go. I woke up with no energy but sitting around all morning (It didn't start until 2) was making me depressed (maybe because this is the first day I had nothing planned and I was actually IN my place). I made the 40 mile drive back to Athens and...honestly probably wasn't worth it.
It was fun but not overwhelming. At least three of the promised trucks weren't there. And man since food trucks are now so trendy the cost is nuts. If I had gotten something from everyone it would have been like a 60$ lunch. I did get my main meal from Dr. May's Thai kitchen, pad thai with duck egg. They had quail egg wontons but I passed on them because a) fried off site and just sitting in a warmer b) 6$ for 3 seemed like a high price point. It was sweeter than I like my pad thai but it was good. The thai tea was a waste of money.
I did stop at the pork and pickle mostly because of pickle (I hate pork) and she seemed a tad put out because they had been asked to bring small plates so people could sample more and no one else had and I didn't blame her. I liked the pickle. But the best thing was the West End Cider house's zingibier (ginger beer cider). Which was no surprise. I go to the cider house and it's good.
I also snagged ali baba's gyro and honestly Arby's was better. Sigh. I brought that home for dinner along with pecan pie bread pudding from the Cajun place. I did run into a coworker there and the girl from Ali baba's made me laugh when she said 'wow you really embraced the purple theme.' That's when I realized I was standing there in a purple t-shirt with a purple purse and my hair visibly purple. All I needed was a red hat...
Since this all took an hour (because honestly the musician hired wasn't worth hanging around and having another 6$ beer for) I decided to make the most of driving this far and went to The Donkey Coffee bar (though I was sad Hot diggity hot dog didn't show. I wanted to try them!). I had a lavender mocha and wrote for about an hour and a half.
Right now I'm in a head space where composing on the computer isn't working but on paper is. That's fine.
And oh
seta_suzume and
all_choseny I have your stuff ready to edit but I was literally gone more on this week off (well three days off) than I would have been had I been at work.
Have some writing challenges. (via
sholio for this first one)
fkficfest is having it's 10th Forever Knight ficathon. While I liked the show I've never written in the fandom but I thought that might be of interest to some of you (I'm not sure if it's DW only or if it's mirrored in LJ).
And one I haven't done in a while but AM thinking of doing now
summer_of_giles (which might be 100% DW only now) I know I shouldn't. (and I promise
enemytosleep and
thenewbuzwuzz I will work on your stories once the Christmas thing is off my plate).
However I've always loved writing Giles and I thought it might be interesting to set something post series. I can imagine what a Watcher might think of certain son of two vampires or a demon like Illyria. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I know you stopped reading the comics, but in season 10 or 11 Giles was brought back as a teenager. I think the opens the door for some comedy lol.

Date: 2019-05-12 06:10 pm (UTC)You're welcome. Happy to help. After all you made me that book cover (actually when I go thru editing it one last time I'll use one as front and the other as a back cover)
Ha, you know what, I have ALWAYS wanted to see a Ripper spin off.

Date: 2019-05-13 07:07 pm (UTC)You should sign up - if you haven't yet. It's still one of my favourite BtVS challenges and I try to sign up every year. I'd love to see Giles trying to figure out what to do with Connor or Illyria.
