Doc agreed the tick bite didn't look good so tonight I have to take a med that makes me vomit uncontrollably. Can't wait.

Then the provost called me. They're releasing the news about who's being laid off, what programs are cut etc. I'm not laid off (I'm not sure about my program) but they canceled my sabbatical. He said they wouldn't even postpone it til next year because they're going away permanently (in breech of contract but ....) I expected this. I told him so. They claim they can't pay the overtime and/or a replacement for me in the spring. I expected that too.

Because not much ever goes my way.

I think L took it worse than me when I called to tell her (since as biology coordinator she needed to know she can stop looking for my replacement).

Guess I really need to ramp up the job search because this is fading fast.

So tell me some good news my friends. All I have is in theory the comic store is going to let me bring back the repeats that they sold me but the bad news is since that's 80 miles away it's going to take me all day. Sigh.

I still had this tab open, didn't get around to comment earlier, though, and now the bad news for you have even multiplied. *hugs*
But I've got some positive things, if you like - no idea if they count for good news or not. It's the day of my big party in the forest cabin and the sun is shining brightly - really good news for me, since a couple of days ago, the forecast said rain probability was 90%. I also got about one hour of good, undisturbed, writing time out of my day for the last ten days, which is totally worth the lack of sleep I paid with. And the alternative method for tick prevention is working well for the furries, even better than the poison I otherwise have to smear into their necks, which they also much welcome, for they hate getting the sticky stuff applied.

So would I! Or any cabin, anywhere, but that's far beyond our means. The one we had the party at is owned by the neighbouring town's council and available for rent, which we did. It's a bit of a hassle since you need to schlepp everything there you might need, down to the loo paper and firewood for the fireside, but it was well worth the effort (and having power, running water, and loos, was something I absolutely wanted.)

That sounds more like what'd be called holiday cottage hereabouts; places where you can stay for a couple of days or weeks, whith regular rooms of a regular house, like sleepign room, bathroom, kitchen or kitchen-living room etc. What we call cabin are rarely as sophisticated as the one we had, meaning having loos, running water and power, and in our case even a kitcen wiht a sink and a fridge, and a fireside in the main room. Mostly, it's just simple cabins wiht nothing more than a fireside, or fire pit outside, giving you protection from rain or bad weather while you host a party or get-together or some activity in the wood. We don't have any land that's not cultivated in some manner in most parts of Germany, as the country is too densely populated. Even the forest is usually cultivated, and therefore has designated spaces and areas which can e used for recreation. The rest is not off-limits, but you need to adhere to certain rules for using it, like no camping or making fire anywhere except in designated fire pits. You don't have to rent any for smaller groups, but if you want a loo and power you have to as there are no free spaces with either in these parts.
One of the biggest treats for me is to travel to places where most of nature is uncultivated and wild, as it's something I can't experience at home.
