Happy birthday to me
Jun. 17th, 2019 10:19 pmThank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday. It's much appreciated. Thanks to those who sent me gifts, you know who you are. Hugs.
It was a perfectly shitty birthday. Mom FINALLY listened to me and went to a different podiatrist who was on call for her pod and she said what I've been saying for two damn weeks, get to the ER.
So I spent the entire birthday in the hospital with mom. They kept her because just like I said, the infection is now potentially in the bone and she needs IV antibiotics. She'll be lucky to keep the toe. She's like you don't need to tell me 'I told you so.'
True but on the other hand I'm a foot doctor. My board certification/specialty was wound care. So it's not that you're not listening to your daughter. You're not listening to a highly trained expert who's had patients go from no infection to amputation to the grave in 24 hours (and ironically I just wrote up a
comment_fic M.A.S.H. story along those lines) I KNOW what I'm talking about. I'm trying to keep you from losing a leg or your life.
So she's in the hospital on two IV antibiotics (the ones I would have used) and will probably be referred to a wound care clinic (which she should have been sent to 3 weeks ago by this other doc I didn't like, but what do I know?) I stayed there until I couldn't (My blood sugar is being bad but low-bad not high-bad) and she was still in the ER two hours after I left (getting infused which is what I figured they were going to do). I have no idea what comes next but seriously she'll be lucky to not have at least part of that toe removed. Sigh.
While I was there, two babies were born (most hospitals play Brahm's Lullabye when babies are born, which is sweet). Welcome to the world, birthday twins.
On the way home, I heard Gloria Vanderbuilt died today. I remember my h.s./college days when the Cordelia Chases of the world looked down on you if you didn't have her jeans. I couldn't wear them. I'm 5'9" (well I was but I've shrank a bit) and back then finding tall-girl jeans was next to impossible. I had to shop in special stores for tall women.

Back in the 80s clothing for women was aimed at the 5'4"-5'6" crowd. They had petites in the stores but not talls. Now they just make pants ridiculously long. They fit me and everyone else has to hem

Date: 2019-06-18 04:23 pm (UTC)I feel you about people (especially relatives and *coff* boyfriends) not listening to you when it comes to something you've got an actual degree in.
I'm only 5'6" but I can't wear average length pants. I don't think I have particularly long legs, but they hit me at about the ankle. I have to get talls, but they are so long I have to roll them up (jeans) or they drag (most everything else) unless I'm wearing shoes that have a thick sole. What a pain. It would be easier, at least, if we still had people around here who did alterations. The one place that sold clothes/dry cleaned/altered closed years ago. It was a sad day.

Luckily I know how to do alterations but it's hard on my hand.
