Odds and Ends

It's a day that's too hot, a day where I'm too nauseous for words, a day where I'm trying to get excited for my research, a day where work is blowing up again, a day where I get disappointed in farmer's markets.
No seriously. I know things are going to be priced higher because of the style of farming. There's priced higher and then there's insanity. No, I'm not paying you 10$ for zucchini bread (and she got a little pissy that I didn't and now I have some of my own in the oven), 7$ for four peaches seems a bit much. The zucchini and tomatoes were reasonable as was the corn. So guess what I came home with.
Also 15$ for dinner at a food truck also seems a bit much. So sorry, looked good, not paying that. If I'm paying that I don't want to be outside with the bugs.
And if anyone wants a postcard from the UK drop me your address in a PM (as I'm too lazy to screen right now). I'm not promising I can find any (as they're apparently passe) but I'm happy to send them.
If I had unlimited funds I would buy this Absolutely Fantastic Steampunk corset
And today on TMC they had something that didn't get on my nerves (I'm not a fan of most old movies, SFF & horror being the exception) They had this Carmilla adaptation from 1932 (not lesbian, vampire an old crone) that I was wondering if it was silent movie later adapted into German but this wiki had some interesting info Vampyr

Date: 2019-07-09 04:41 am (UTC)YIKES, it does - like, did they actually grow the peaches in Great Britain? That might explain why expensive, but not why they thought it was a good idea.
On the one hand, seems like taking the homoerotic subtext out of Carmilla would kill the fun. On the other hand, it wouldn't be a story about how sexual minorities are monsters, so there's that. :D

Date: 2019-07-09 06:41 pm (UTC)Can't really expect 30s movies to have any queer content I suppose. But there is also the monsterization of lesbians in the original (though one lit prof framed it as the desire to see queer content at that time but it was the only way to get it out there)
