Even more sunshine
Jul. 9th, 2019 07:55 pmYet another day with too much of it for me (I'm more a vampire every year).

Here's the problem I don't really have any squees right now other than old ones. It's been years since TV/movies has captured my fannish mind. Don't get me wrong. I love the MCU but it hasn't inspired me to write much. Ditto Lucifer. A lot of stuff I'd love to watch is all streaming and since I live in the country it takes me out of the running. Internet isn't fast enough, not at my parents, not back home so I haven't seen most of the interesting-to-me.
X-Files, Star Trek (any) Fullmetal Alchemist, Saiyuki and other animes are still my jam.
When it comes to fandom the one I'm into hardest now is actually an old one, the Buffyverse. People had been begging me for years to finish Hyperion’s Son after 15 years, a Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel crossover novel and several people were doing
wipbigbang and I joined and finished HS. That put me back down the Buffyverse rabbit hole. I've been working on new and finishing all the abandoned projects.
I've a few books I'm obsessed with, C.S. Harris's Sebastian St. Cyr books. One of the best historical mysteries out there. I'm also really enjoying Leanne Renee Hieber's paranormal novels and Kim Fieldings m/m fantasies (and both are really nice people)
My other obsessions right now are historical and ghost tourism. I've always loved both but I'm doing more of it now. To be honest, I'm traveling more because I know my health is beginning to fail. I can't escape the feeling I won't live as long as my long-lived relatives so I'm making more of an effort to travel.
My entire trip to the UK in less than 2 weeks (god) is historical travel because of course that IS my research project (the history of medicine in Wales) and I just came back less than two weeks ago from Gettysburg. I love historical travel.
As for the ghost hunts, I've been doing it since the 80s in college. Picture me, nineteen running around with a Sony Walkman recording evps and an old film camera. That's it. Now ghost tourism is everywhere and I'm enjoying it.
I'd love to do it myself but I don't live where it's feasible. I wish I hit the lottery because this house just came on the market. I GoogleEarthed this beauty and it's just a bit too far out to be a good B&B (which frankly creep me out and I'm not really going to be up for breakfast) for Gettysburg but I'm like ghost tour! I'd do it as a mini-bus tour. I'd start it at the Conoco across from the 1863 hotel (they'd be cool with it if I kick back, judging by the glass pipes they're selling in a state that hasn't legalized marijuana, I'm thinking they're easy going). It's right across from the Jenny Wade house and I'd begin my spiel there and the orphanage. I'd drive a few other sites then out to my house. I'm sure that this home has at least seen bodies since it was there for the battle, it might have been used for a hospital as many of the houses did. I can keep the downstairs floors neat and take people to the haunted basement.
the tours I was on ran 20-30 people at ten dollars a head. If I ran the tour Thursday- Sunday I could make about 3000-3500 a month which of course isn't enough to actually afford this house but it's big enough to have my parents and my brother and his wife there so we could pool our money....
Ha, okay so it won't happen but this house has a cool history and this WOULD make a good story.
I guess that would be my last obsession, my own original fiction. I need to get off my butt on my YA stuff. I need to get the first 50 pages of Splinters to a beta (besides my writers group because MORE EYES!) and off to the agents and see what happens. Maybe one day I'll be someone else's obsession. But if you want to know what I do publish these days (keeping it separate from here more than I have been) PM me.

Date: 2019-07-10 11:25 am (UTC)Buffy! I used to love that so much, I remember watching it all through high school and being fixated with it. It was such an awesome show (Angel too) and I really have to watch it again soon.
I’ve never been on a ghost tour, but I really want to.
I hope you have a nice trip, Wales is such a lovely place to visit.

Date: 2019-07-10 04:10 pm (UTC)I started rewatching Buffy/Angel this year but things went pear-shaped so I've set it aside for now.
Ghost tours are fun (helps if you like history because changes are that's what you're going to get out of it)
Wales was fun last time.

Date: 2019-07-10 03:57 pm (UTC)I had the first four of Buffy and...just read them finally yesterday. Honestly I'm not impressed at all by the changes. I'll get a few more to see if it gets better but...
