A dragonfly was so interested in me
Aug. 17th, 2019 12:09 pmShe followed me along the sidewalk to my car and then I realized I forgot my purse and she followed me back to the apartment and then to the car again. Who knows what fascinated her.
Well yesterday's faculty development day sucked too. No shocker because this is the first day back with so many of us gone. For some reason the board chairs (you know the ones who’ve been mishandling crap all along) were there but said nothing and left after they were introduced (and the president promises we’re not closing and we’re to tell the locals that, and ha, I’m not sure I believe it).
They then spent TWO HOURS on computer training….on a movie screen no one could see and NOT in the computer lab. They should have at least told us to bring our lap tops so we could have followed along. I mean it was important and useful stuff. I would have loved to be able to use VidGrid because I want my students to try podcasting some stuff to make it more fun for them. BUT how the shit could we get anything out of this (I will tell them that on the evaluation of the meeting, not in those terms of course) So I ask OUR IT guys will they do some hands on and was told, ‘it has tutorials.’ Well thanks for nothing guys. I want my two hours back.
They dumped a class yesterday on one of our new instructors in biology and told him teach it on Monday, a class we told them we couldn’t staff, a class he’s never seen before (because it’s nothing to create a class de novo in two days). Luckily, I taught that class four summers ago so I spent all my internet time this afternoon collecting my old notes from the online teaching software I had it on and sending it to him.
And the new contract we signed today might destroy the nursing faculty’s abilities to do their job. we now MUST be on campus 4 days a week and they need to be in the hospitals for clinicals and were told no exceptions. I said fight, agitate for the love of god without you, this school is DONE. Also keep in mind nursing faculty are HARD to find because they can make double their salary as a nurse.
Class hasn’t even started and I’m already so done with this semester.
I also learned Loot Crate has gone bankrupt (which might explain why I never saw money back from these idiots)
In good news I wrote a lot during that boring ass meeting and I have two nano novels in my head. I really have a lot of ideas for a mystery based on The Dead Files. When this show first started it was relatively benign. Last year I watched her doing a lot of telling people they need to get in 12 different sort of witches, priests and reiki masters and/or sell the house and move. This year I’ve seen her denigrate people that her partner uncovers who still have living relatives and I’m like wow. I can see someone murdering her. Is it the irate son of a woman who sold her home for a loss? Someone who just had their uncle on national TV as a murderous demon-dude? Someone whose loved one died/killed themselves because they were told their cancer/depression was caused by ghosts?
The question is do I want to conflate this with an urban fantasy series I’ve already had in mind or do I want it to be a straight up mystery. And really I SHOULD be doing that UF story instead. No what I really need to STOP doing half a novel and tossing it on Dec first. I always do fanfic for the holidays but I’m supposed to be picking up again in Jan and I don’t.
Also going into the library to post this, I found one of those painted rocks you're meant to take (and leave others of your own), it's an owl with the words Happy Birthday Harry on it. I found two others around the library as well (same inscription) and left those.
