Escaped to Columbus
Aug. 31st, 2019 09:20 pmIt was rainy so I wasn't up to a two hour trip to Cincinnati and do something outdoors so Columbus shopping it was. I haven't been up there in nearly a year.
I know I've said this before but I am DONE taking books to Halfprice Bookstore. It was fine when they were 15 miles away and while it wasn't the reason I went to Columbus it feels vaguely insulting to be offered 2.50$ for six books (including an expensive one I should have just donated to the library. I almost took it back and really I SHOULD have) and six books on CD (yeah I know audio downloads rule the day but still). And of course it was 20% off everything day so I bought a couple. Sigh.
From there I went to Tuttle's Crossing mall. That Macy's had stuff the one in Huntington and the one back home didn't. I got a Last Act (i.e. 70% off) purple shirt with black polka dots. I'm not really a dot person but all my purple shirts have been or should be retired and it was 7$. Hard to pass that up. Got a pair of navy slacks and something ELD will steal from me the next time she visits: a super soft Stitch (as in Lilo and) hoodie sweatshirt.
It's a huge mall (and happily full) so I walked it. I won't walk in the heat but put me in an air conditioned mall and I'll cruise with all the other old people. This one had a bubble tea place (had watermelon) and a high end antique store called Vintage Rescue that had a goth perambulator from the 1880s that was only 150$ and if I had a house that would have come home with me. I'd put something creepy in it for Halloween.
From the mall I went to Trader Joe's. I love so much of their food. If I had one closer (this is the closest to me at about 85 miles away) I'd a) have to buy a chest freezer and b) put it outside my trailer because that's all I'd be able to afford, me in my trailer with my high end food. They had something called thomcords or something like that, a hybrid of Thompson and Concord grapes that are literally the sweetest damned things I've ever eaten. I bought too many cheeses.
I popped into Barnes and Nobles mostly to pee (TJs doesn't have a bathroom) but found a manga I've been looking for so there was that and they gave me a coupon for buy one get one free cookies. Yay.
Which turned out to be a bigger yay than I thought. I planned to go to the casino and eat and play a little as it's on the way home. I got there and there wasn't ANY places in the valet parking and almost none in the parking lot period. I said screw it. WIth that many people it would be at least an hour or more wait (with my frozen foods in the cooler in my car) and another hour to eat so I have better things to do than piss away money.
I ended up in Chillicothe at Red Lobster for the last days of Crabfest. I figured I didn't gamble the money away so I'd eat a portion of it. It was so crowded I had to eat at the bar. Ah well.
The only downer (casino aside) was the gray visitor who whispered in my ears that my shirt was stupid and grandma like (it was a white t-shirt but dressy and covered in giraffes) and I couldn't figure out why I bought it or why I was wearing it but I got SO MANY compliments on that shirt so take that depression.
