Bob Evans Farm Fest
Oct. 12th, 2019 11:31 pmSo my brother and his wife came down for the annual excursion to Bob's. I'm not quite sure what their fascination with this festival is but it's nice to see them. We met at LaRosa's for lunch then headed basically onto campus (Have I mentioned we share land with Bob Evans? If you don't know what that is, Bob Evans was a famous sausage maker and restaraunter)
They were out of the open fire cooked beans already (good planning dudes it's noon and you've only be open 2 hours). Personally I like to go look at the vendors and spend money like a drunken sailor. My SiL comes with me. Brother watches all the various shows (the log roller/carver, pig races, border collie displays). Weather wise it was perfect, high 50s - low 60s.
While there didn't seem to be less tents there really felt like there were less vendors. Two of the jewelry vendors I like weren't there, the fudge people (no loss it wasn't that good), the salsa people to name a few. And my school had NO DAMN BOOTHS. A competing college did. How terrible is that?
I still spent more money than necessary. I got a wicked hand carved wooden spoon for cooking. A glass ornament for Mom, something for Flippy, two jars of honey (as if I don't have too much already but it's local and I love it), tea I dont' need, a little bit of maple candy, moulin rogue sunflower seeds and some weird ass long yellow gourd like watermelon seed.
There was one vendor I went back to. Could have saved myself the walk. She had gorgeous amber stuff but I didn't check prices. Okay, if I wanted to pay jewelry store prices I'd get it there because if it went bad I could go back. I'm not sure she's been at this redneck fest before but 100$+ earrings and even more expensive necklaces aren't going to fly here. We don't have that kind of disposable cash.
Leaving there I spotted a vendor I had somehow missed. She had wooden Christmas ornaments with Sasquatch on it, 2 for 10$. Mine.
From there, I didn't come back to my place because it's so wrecked. Took them to Jackson and let them check into their hotel (I only have 1 bathroom and we all have serious health issues so that isn't adequate) They wanted to see the town so I drove them around and out to Lake Katherine but we didn't get out. SiL has M.S. so don't want to overtire her.
We went to Arch and Eddie's and I got the special, a tex-mex chicken sandwich that was SO huge. I could only eat half. From there we went to the adjoining brewery for beer but I got mead. Sixth Sense poured me a full and I mean FULL wine glass of mead. Never seen anyone do that before. it was delicious.
Then SiL wanted a bubble at Michael's (local ice cream joint that has a nut roaster that's been in continuous use since the late 1800s and the ghosts of a million nuts are in that thing. They are DELICIOUS and I don't like chopped peanuts on things). She saw me post a picture on FB and wanted one (unfortunately they were out of the pumpkin ice cream we both wanted). I settled with cinnamon bun with hot fudge.
We hung out at the hotel for another hour or so before I came home. I had to pull the plants in as it'll frost tonight. It was about 39 when I came in so I have all the windows open. I'll have a nice cold bedroom tonight. Love it.
