I have wishes, yes I do

In your own space, make a list — anything between one and ten things is a sweet spot, but don't feel constrained by that! - of things that you wish existed in fandom or elsewhere, or that you'd like someone to make for you. Are you dying for podfic of your writing? Do you need icons for a character that doesn't get much fanart? Is there a story you want to read? Are you looking for new canons to get into? Would you like a collaborator for a project?
Maybe you want more people to talk about a certain fandom with, or you'd love to trade ficlets with somebody over email. Maybe you're new to a fandom and would like some recs to start reading, or communities to join. This is the time to ask!
Okay, I'm usually bad at this but not this year. I DO have wishes. I do a lot to fulfill others over the years for other people so I should be kind to myself and ask for things I might like.
Original Fiction - I would love fan art of my characters (I'd probably back flip if someone ever was moved to fanfic my crap). However what I could really use is reviews on Amazon if you choose to read something of mine. (You can find my stuff here.)
Fan Fic - You can find most of my stuff here on AO3 and here on FFN. You can probably tell from what I write what I like.
I'm ALWAYS open to fanfic or fanart. My main fandoms are Buffyverse (not so much the Boom reboot, like at all but BtVS and Angel both are good). I liked the fanged four, Buffy/Angel, Spike/Dru, Giles/Jenny, Willow/Tara, Faith/Spike, Wes/Lilah, Connor/Faith, Connor/Dawn and frankly just plain gen fic. I will say I'm pretty set for icons with this fandom. Always did want to see old school Buffy fan vid to School's Out by Alice Cooper
Fullmetal Alchemist - again gen fic is fantastic but shippy wise I always liked Roy/Riza, Roy/Maes, Maes/Gracia, Roy/Olivier, Ed/Winry. I'm also set for icons with this one.
I was a big fan of all things Star Trek, Lucifer and The X-Files
However my NEWEST fandom is Prodigal Son. I'm currently using the only icon I have so I would definitely love more. I'm a huge fan of Malcolm Bright, Edrisa Tanaka, Gil Arroyo and Dani Powell but I like ALL the characters (how often does that happen?) I prefer case fic in this fandom. Shipwise Gil and Jackie (who I guess all of fandom assumes was his wife before she passed), Malcolm and Dani (or Edrisa) is cool but seriously gen fic is great. I would love to see a Malcolm fan vid to either Theory of a Deadman's World War Me or Citizen Soldier's If These Scars Could Speak. They work well for Malcolm (and me if I'm honest)
For ANY of my fandoms, if someone wanted to podfic any of the smaller ones, go nuts. I'd be thrilled!
And for both fan and original fic, I am always looking for beta readers (and am happy to exchange fics)
Non-fannish things, I'm always on the look out for diabetic recipes (preferably not desserts, I'm looking more to create good meals)
thanks for listening!
And oh in case you don't know those songs, here you go

Date: 2020-01-12 09:04 am (UTC)Check out the "decolonize your diet" and "traditional foodways" movement in Native American culture. Prior to the European invasion, sugar was extremely limited in supply. So the old ways of cooking, and newer recipes based primarily on those, tend to use ingredients and methods that are low in sugar and don't use ultra-processed carbohydrates either. Hunt around online, because some folks are trying to quash the raging epidemic of diabetes on reservations by returning to older, healthier foods. So there are many recipes being posted for free.
I got The Sioux Chef's Indigenous Kitchen for Midwinter and it's awesome. In addition to the recipes, it has a lot of pages that list sets of ingredients. Did you know there is maple vinegar? I actually managed to find that and it goes great with maple syrup -- meaning you can make a topping that tastes maple but has less actual sugar in it. The game meats (bison, pheasant, etc.) are much leaner than modern beef or pork raised to be fat. There are lists of wild greens, sometimes available at farmer's markets. No dairy, if you're avoiding that.
Africa is also well worth a look if you love greens. The Oldways African food pyramid has a base of greens.
Something else to try if you're into spice blends: naked salad. Our favorite Indian restaurant started doing this; if you order appetizers they come out with big cucumber spears, a few lettuce leaves, and tomato wedges all dusted with some spice blend. I'm guessing it was either a shadrasa (six tastes) masala or one of the curry masalas. We ate all of it. We sat there and ate salad and took home lamb korma as leftovers. No dressing, just zesty spices on cold wet vegetables. I'm not even a salad fan and it was amazingly good. If you're trying to minimize fat, skip the dressing and try your favorite spice blend right on the veggies.
Some other fun things I did with salad in summer: Grab random handfuls of herbs from the garden and toss them in with spring mix leaves. Basils work great. Pick a bowl full of edible flower petals and add those to spring mix. Marigolds gave the most petals per grab, nasturtiums are peppery. I got asked to make the flower salad again when the flowers come back into season. Neither of these add any more fat, sugar, etc. than a basic leaf salad has, but they are a great deal more interesting. (Ordinary salads don't appeal to me, but a sufficiently exciting one will.)
I have a Recipe</a. tag on my blog if you want to browse more. Not everything is diabetic-friendly, but there are some.

I know like 2 African recipes so that'll be a fun read over.
I'm huge into spices but unfortunately for me the gastric paresis (the stomach moves too slowly) has vastly limited my ability to eat salad, raw veggies, even fibrous fruits like apples. I can only have small amounts if at all (like today with the sugar high, it would be none) which makes me SAD because I love all that stuff. I have eaten edible flowers in my salad before.
