Hey I'm gonna live
Jan. 27th, 2020 10:57 pmI saw my orthopedic surgeon (yo, Tony, it's me again. Whatcha do this time) and my knee will live. It's surprisingly non-arthritic btw (go me) It has a bone and soft tissue bruise but the knee is stable (well as stable as someone with Ehlers-Danlos is gonna get). I said that at work and my Chair looked at me and said CoM you're never stable. Smart ass.
Even he thought the arm was broken give the size of the lump. We didn't find a fracture so he agreed with my assessment. It's a damn thrombus (blood clot) so there is a danger there. I'm to be using compression on it. I'll be back in ace bandages for a while and the OTHER anatomy prof has her other hand in ace bandages post-op. We' re like that's right A&P is a TOUGH class.
I have thoughts about Prodigal Son naturally but I want more to talk about It didn't address the box or Watkins. I guess it was 'real' and I found that a huge let down somehow. I'm also not believing a) that the knife missed everything b) they had him in the hospital for weeks if nothing major was hit. Sigh. Other than that, I enjoyed it. Oh Jessica, you embarrassed the fuck out of your baby boy but you were funny doing it (which I tweeted and Bellamy Young thanked me for). Also what the actual hell is Malcolm doing with the girl in the box style trunk at the foot of his bed? Here let me keep my PTSD trigger object right here....

In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (Or a few!) What makes it particularly appealing for you? What do you like in fanworks featuring that trope?
Part of me has long felt that I actually don't like a lot of tropey things but I'm coming to realize that as far as fandom everything is tropey and I do like some of them.
I have an unholy love of whump. I didn't even know it had a name until recently. So obviously I like hurt/comfort too but when I'm writing it I struggle with the comfort. That's when I realized I'm into whump. Ironically as I was figuring this out, Malcolm Bright, the whump king, comes into my life. Connor was pretty damn whumpy too. So I definitely liked h/c and whump. (that said I'm not too much on non-con dub-con but I haven't written it. Some of my latest whump/ hurt-comfort include: Be Near Summary: Malcolm has had a very bad day and people with concussions shouldn’t be alone. Dani has elected to stay with him.
The Lessons Pain Teaches Summary: Malcolm is in more pain than he can easily handle and it’s not all because of what Paul Lazar has done.
Like Stone Summary: Twenty years after the battle with the First and the aftermath of Jasmine’s reign, life still isn’t easy for Buffy and Angel and their friends and family. Connor has been on the outside of his father’s life for years and isn’t particularly happy to be brought back in when Dawn shows up in L.A. with a case that requires his attention. But that is just the beginning of the badness threatening to swallow them all whole.
I also love case!Fic. I mean it just makes sense, right? I love the show so I should naturally love stories that feel like they could be an episode of the show. They're really my favorite out of all tropes.
I've written a lot of but here's my latest stuff Ghosts and Vacations Don’t Mix Summary: When Faith summons Buffy and Dawn to Salem, MA, Buffy is puzzled. She’s pleased to learn that Faith has asked Angel along so he and Buffy can have some time alone while Dawn helps with the magic Faith needs. Too bad the ghosts didn’t get the memo that Buffy is on vacation.
Devour the Small Summary:
Anne brings Angel Investigations a case that Fred and Gunn set out to solve. (I still need to clean this one up a little)
Lately I've been getting more and more into found family both in fanfic and in my original fiction. Let's be honest, sometimes the best family relationships we have are ones we find for ourselves. I've been writing a lot if in the buffyverse and prodigal son.
Hell is For Children Summary: During his recovery, Connor had found a safe haven in a local coffee shop. The owner asks for Angel Investigations’ help. A child has gone missing and Connor is determined to get her back.
Of Snowmen and Hot Chocolate Summary: In an attempt to insert some normalcy into her children’s lives, Jessica asks the Arroyos to spend a winter weekend with them.
I love past!fic stories. I'm a sucker for backstory. I already create too much of it for my original fiction. I just love to fill in all those details.
Not All Heroes Wear Capes Summary: Gil thinks this is a great way to get the kid to open up about what was bothering him. Jessica isn’t as sure.
I am a sucker for friends to lovers as well. I'm not much of a romance reader but that one really works for me. I've done some of that. Kindness Like Snow Summary: After the bad guy has been dealt with, Malcolm isn’t ready to go home alone. Luckily neither is Dani so he decides to treat her to something iconic: a night at Rockefeller Center. (okay they're not lovers yet but getting there in this)
BDSM, that's a big thing with me. That's all I really want to say about that. I prefer it on the light side, nothing too painful or humiliating. Love bondage, electrostimulation, whips and chains, you get the picture. And I like it consensual. Sparks Summary: Malcolm is in need of a little self care and he knows exactly what he wants. However, the criminals aren’t likely to give him much time to himself.
Fix-it fic. I mean don't a lot of us get into fanfic to 'fix' something we were upset by. This one turned into a fix it darkfic (ooo I like that too!) novel Hyperion's Son Summary: More than ten years after Angel gave up his son, Angel Investigations has a strange new case. One of the young new Slayers training with Buffy at the ‘Slayer school’ in LA has turned up dead just like a half dozen or so street kids leading Angel, Buffy and their friends into a very dark world of hopelessness to find the evil is after one of their own.
I also like crossovers. Some of it can be a blast. If it runs again I'll do
intoabar which is a crossover challenge. This one came from there Drinks at the Pub In between Worlds Summary: All Connor wants is a night on the town in Dublin. What he gets is vampires and interdimensional travel. Alphonse is on a mission for General Mustang. It should have been easy, but a stranger complicates everything.
On the Field of Battle Summary Buffy has dedicated herself to training others to fight the Walkers but is the new group she meets during a battle friend or foe.

Date: 2020-02-02 11:36 pm (UTC)And, yeah, having the knife miss everything was ridiculous, particularly because the blood loss alone would have been a complicating issue.
Maybe trapping Watkins in the box has let him reclaim its significance into a good one??? IDEK.
Nice tropes, yes!!

Date: 2020-02-02 11:56 pm (UTC)Exactly! That irritated the hell out of me because they DID have him in the hospital for a 'few weeks' Okay either something WAS hit (spleen and stomach based on what I saw) or if nothing was then he'd have been discharged in days after the transfusion. Because they're not keeping you for 7 stitches and a broken hand bone (unless Jess bought someone off) You can't have it both ways.
I LOOKED that stupid ass trunk has been at the foot of his bed since the beginning. So Malcolm likes to trigger himself? At what point does Gil say maybe if you got the girl in the box box out of your damn bedroom you'd sleep?
