What a day

The faculty meeting was today. I forgot and had on my Eeyore scrubs. Nothing like standing up the president to defend my department with that fat donkey dancing over my boobs.

At dinner I was watching tv and drinking without looking. Something hard hit my teeth and I spit it out. A STINK BUG. OMG it tasted so vile. I am so sick at the thought of it.

I dreamt a long dream last night but what I remember was my dept chair EB and her wife D and I were involved in a medical scam. They ended up killing someone, running away and framing me. I was SO mad at her (silly brain)

I'm also strongly side eyeing [personal profile] sholio because she's busy tantalizing me with the [community profile] genfreeformexchange. I JUST SAID NO EXCHANGES BUT MY BRAIN IS OOOOOOO.

Someone shoot me. Honestly I think since I've pretty much decided to skip the chocolate box next year, I can make a substitution this year, right?? I also just told [personal profile] thenewbuzwuzz that I couldn't do the meta challenge because I'm on deadline. That is true. However fiction is WAY easier than meta for me. Also this one has both Prodigal Son and Buffyverse and I am really good with the tagsets and I love gen fic! Gah, stop me.

And while I'm at it, have a scene from my proposed long Prodigal Son story (planning it for after S1 because seriously i need it to be in May...) but this scene fit my last bingo square so if you want to take a peek it's under the cut

it's somewhere around ch 3 or 4 with this but basically someone has started sending Martin video clips stolen from Malcolm's college friends' computers. They only learned about it because they were at Claremont when it came through. It's also unbetaed at this point.

Dani rubbed the back of her neck as she watched the screen in the station’s conference room. “I feel horrible.”

Malcolm looked his head to the side. “You do? It’s my life we’re prying into. I feel so violated.” That wasn’t a joke. He hated that this was necessary. So many times since he’d returned to New York that he felt exposed to everyone.

“You’re the one who let it be recorded.”

“JT don’t be an asshole,” Dani snapped.

“We have to look, Kid.” Gil sipped his coffee. Malcolm wished he’d doctored their drinks with bourbon. “We have to figure out what this person wants your father to see in all of this.”

“That you’re a little perv would be my guess,” JT said and Dani punched his shoulder.

“I may be but you seem to be enjoying my life a little too much. Jealous?” He couldn’t keep the bite out of his voice even though he knew JT was joking.

“Of your back of the hearse in chains sex life? More amazed than jealous.”

“You forgot the shock glove,” Dani muttered.

“That isn’t helping,” Malcolm sniped. No one needed to know his private and desires and sure as hell didn’t need to be paraded in front of his father. At least now they could intercept it all thanks to the chance meeting in his father’s cell. Still, now the team was seeing his inner most secrets. He wasn’t ashamed of how he expressed his sexuality but he didn’t need the team’s input on it either.

“I feel like I need some popcorn for this,” JT grinned.

“JT!” Gil said in warning.

“What? This is like a twisted rom-com.”

“Is that how you’re explaining it to Tally?” Malcolm asked.

“I’m not sure Tally is ready for dog collars and taphophilia.” JT’s grin broadened. “I think Gil and I weren’t wrong to worry about you and the whole necrophilia thing.”

“Dani,” Malcolm whined and she punched JT’s arm again. “Thank you. Gil this requires more caffeine.”

“Or popcorn.” JT rolled his chair out of punching range.

“Can we just concentrate.” Gil shot them all the hairy eyeball. “We don’t all have to be here for this, Malcolm, but it can’t just be you.”

“It’s fine,” he lied.

“And you’re not a necrophiliac, in spite of how much you seem to know about it,” Dani said. “That was for your research right because you were a bit…enthusiastic about the topic.”

“Because it’s fascinating! I don’t want to have someone stay with me forever. I don’t even let anyone stay the night,” he argued but deep down he would like someone to be with him but in the normal, non-necrophiliac way.

“Bright,” Gil said with the same warning he’d given JT. “Sorry can we just get through this with the minimal amount of fuss.”

“I don’t think we need to see these. I think I already know why these are being sent to my father.”

“You don’t sound as sure as you usually do,” Dani held up a hand. “And I’m not saying that because I want to see more of these. Have you really got a handle on this? Would you rather just Gil goes through the footage since he already knows you best?”

Malcolm sighed. “You might be right. I have an idea but am I a hundred percent certain? No. And it’s not I’m embarrassed by how I lived my life in college but I don’t like being on display.”

“Who does?” JT asked. “Tell us what you think.”

“I think that since the few we’ve seen were around Roisin and me and our unconventional sex life, that maybe whoever is doing this, is judging me and wants my father to do the same. I’m not sure why anyone would care and I guess we do have to see the rest of what was sent so I can get a better idea of that.”

“But it can’t be good,” JT replied.

“No, it’s not a good thing that someone wants my father’s attention.”

“And seems to want to toss you under the bus,” Dani said.

“Hmmm, that’s actually a helpful observation.”

“It’s basically what you said,” she countered.

“But harsher and that might be the right tone.”

“What are you thinking, kid?”

Malcolm glanced over at Gil. “That someone wants my father to think less of me. I don’t know why. It’s not like he feels things like a normal person but…I’ve always thought he was at least proud of me.”

“I think you are one of the few things that matter to him,” Gil replied and Malcolm chose to believe him. Evans “You might be on to something but what would it matter to this person what your father thinks?”

“That I’m not sure of yet.”

“What if this is something like our first case?” Dani asked.

Malcolm regarded her for a moment. “Yeah, that could be. Another fan. I mean it’s not that uncommon for serial killers to have them as baffling as that might be to most of us. Ainsley related to me something that upset her after she broadcasted the interview with our father.”

“She should be upset,” Dani mumbled, taking him by surprise. Her eyebrows rose as she realized she said that out loud. “She could have tanked your career by telling the world your mental health illnesses.”

He sighed, shaking his head. “The hardest part of that is if it were diabetes no one would care but you’re right. That aside, what upset my sister is that her boss talked about the uptick in searches for ‘hot’ serial killers and that she’d done it too.”

“You have to be kidding me.” JT snorted.

“I wish I were. I suppose my father isn’t a bad looking man.” Malcolm shrugged. “Ted Bundy had his devoted followers, even Manson, though I’m not sure I see the attraction there. Well to any of them regardless of looks.”

“Then this could be a woman,” Dani said.

“It’s certainly a possibility.” He gestured to the computer. “Go ahead and run the latest clip. Might as well get this over with.”

Gil turned it on. To Malcolm’s surprise, he wasn’t immediately on screen. It was Roisin, Suzume and Jaylin talking so Suzume must have put her camera on a tripod. As much as he liked her, he was beginning to regret ever living with a film student.

“I’ve been here two weeks now and I have a personal question if you’ll indulge me,” Suzume said to Roisin.

“I’ll give it a shot.” Roisin sat back on the couch with that ‘I’m about to be sarcastic’ look on her face. God, he missed that.

“Why Malcolm?”

“Why Malcolm what?”

“Don’t get me wrong, he’s a perfectly nice guy, a real sweetheart really but he seems like he’d be the opposite of who’d you go for,” Suzume said and Jaylin pushed back in her chair as if expect Roisin to explode.

Instead she shrugged and smiled slowly. “The flip answer would be opposite attract and thank you for not automatically assuming I’m after his money.”

Suzume shook her head. “I never got that hit and that’s good because I imagine that has to be absolutely tiring for him.”

“Malcolm is so broken in that regard, I doubt it’s been much of an issue,” Jaylin said but she was wrong. He’d been confronted with it often enough and he hated it.

“I supposed the whole shared trauma thing is at play but is it more than that? Is it the BDSM thing and feel free to tell me to mind my own business?”

Roisin shook her head, pushing her white-gold hair back. “It’s fine and honestly the submissive part is only a small part and usually not sexual, regardless of what a lot of people think. I mean, it sure can be but that’s not it. You’ve already hit on it, Suzume. Malcolm is nice. Men in my world were never nice, my youngest brother being the exception. I’m not used to nice men. In school, even if they didn’t know my history and for the most part they didn’t because I left my hometown area, boys were just…gross, overly sexualized, demanding, entitled. With what happened to me growing up, I couldn’t have that. I know looking at us from the outside, we have to look like such a weird couple. Hell, we don’t’ even really call ourselves a couple. But he makes me the center of his world when we’re together. I see you and Jaylin together. It’s obvious you love each other so you know what I mean.”

Suzume nodded. “I’m lucky that way. I know exactly what you mean.”

“So that’s why. He is withdrawn but once you get to know him, Malcolm is smart, sweet and generous. What he wants more than anything is to be accepted and loved because nearly everyone since his father was incarcerated has rejected him and it’s so unfair. He’s no more responsible for his father’s violence as I was for mine.”

“The sins of the father,” Jaylin scoffed. “One of my least favorite passages in the Bible. My grandfather was a preacher and he tried to explain it to me but that passage has I am a jealous God in it and the idea that a child should suffer for the father’s bad acts.” She shook her head. “When I first met Malcolm, he told me who he was almost immediately. I asked him why He said it was because he liked me and he didn’t want me to hate him if i found out later who he was and got mad because he lied. It made me so sad so I was determined to look out for him.”

“And she introduced me to him on a ghost tour.” Roisin smiled but he couldn’t follow her. This conversation was something he had known nothing about and it hurt. He sounded so vulnerable in this and it was too late to change his mind about who got to hear this. He surveyed Dani and JT from his peripheral vision but there was nothing there to hurt him. Dani looked deeply upset and JT seemed embarrassed to be here.

“Jaylin told me that he was different and he was. That he’s a subbie who is willing to switch it up was more like icing on the cake.” Roisin leaned closer to Suzume. “But one of the other perks of Malcolm is he’s of the nice guys finish last mentality in bed if you know what I mean.” She beamed.

Suzume giggled. “I get it. I can see why that’s a perk.”

With that the recording ended and Malcolm wanted to slid under the table. He caught JT staring at him with quirked up eyebrows. “What?” he snapped.

JT put up his hands. “Nothing. Just more about you than I needed to know…or suspected.”

“I just think both of us ought to get to where we’re going,” he grumbled.

“I’ve had boyfriends who could have benefitted from that philosophy,” Dani snorted and Gil stared at the ceiling probably wishing to go under the table himself as his ‘children’ bickering about sex.

“Keep that in mind when you go on that fake date with skinny ass,” JT laughed.

“That video made it seem like a better idea than it did when I agreed to it,” she countered.

His spirits sagged a bit. “Dani, you really don’t have to go if you don’t want to. I’m used to attending these things alone.”

“No, I want to go,” She made a face. “I guess that didn’t sound convincing but it could be fun, right? And I already knew you were a nice guy but having outside opinions help. I haven’t always chosen well, not that I’m choosing you but …you know what I’m trying to say, right?”

“I’ve gotten the jist of it,” he replied, letting her off the hook. “But what I don’t understand is why include this particular clip? I don’t look bad in it like I do in many of the others.”

“I suppose that would depend on how you perceive nice guys,” Gil interjected. “Being nice and considerate can be seen as not being masculine.”

“Nice guys come last in general usually means they’re wussy and they don’t measure up,” JT replied. “Not saying that’s what I think but you aren’t exactly the most masculine of men, no offense.”

“Some taken but I get what you’re saying,” he said, stung a little but he’d be damned if he could say why. He never cared about that sort of thing.

“While I’m sure Tally would be with Dani in the appreciating your philosophy, you also allow women tie you up and do whatever to you, no details.” JT stabbed a finger at him. “And you apparently like to put her needs first, rather than demanding she take care of you. If whoever this is finds that objectable what you see as showing you in a good light, wouldn’t agree. I’m guessing your father would be more of the demanding sort.”

Malcolm threw up his hands, shaking his head violently. “No, do not put those images in my head. My parents having sex…I just cannot with that.”

“No one can,” JT agreed.

“Okay so if you and JT are right, Gil, this is one more bit of evidence whoever is behind this wants my father to view me in a less than flattering light,” Malcolm said.

“And them as a friend for enlightening him?” Gil asked and Malcolm nodded.

“I agree.”

“I have one personal question myself.” JT grinned broadly and Malcolm braced for it.

“If I say no…”

“Still gonna ask. So, this going last thing, is that some of your yoga stuff or…”

Malcolm went boneless in the chair, flopping back on it. “I should just punch you but how about I set you up with a tantra instructor?”

JT chuckled as Dani pushed him. Gil shook his head.

“I think we’re done here.”

“I’m definitely done,” Malcolm groaned. But he wasn’t done. He’d be turning the whys of this around in his head for hours if not days. This wasn’t going to end well.

*giggles* As long as you're not accused of doing that on purpose in the hope to distract them....
I'm full of sympathies about the stinking bug - gah! Nearly bit on a ladybug once, not a nice memory either. (We were on an island with a severe ladybug infestation (?) at the time, and outside every surface was literally red from bugs. You couldn't step anywhere without crushing hundreds of them, let alone sit anywhere or hold onto something... )

Someone shoot me. Honestly I think since I've pretty much decided to skip the chocolate box next year, I can make a substitution this year, right??
Well...
