Happy Ostara
Mar. 19th, 2020 09:33 pmWell, not tremendously happy this year. Maybe a Safe Ostara would be better.

There is good news (besides me managing to get my contacts and having enough insulin to last at least another week to give things a tiny bit of time to adjust) I proposed MY plan for MY classes to the Provost and Dean and they said YES!! Yay. I think this is more fair than one big pass fail test. I've put up all my notes on all my classes. Next I'll put up homework online and online tests. They can work at their own pace until the finals week. If they can't be online I'll make up paper packages they can come get and bring back. So far I've had a 90% response rate in the matter of hours (I spent the whole afternoon answering email) I have less than 6 who can't do this online at this point.
I'll be busy fixing this up but at least it's there.
I'm thinking of writing a horror, set here in the Hocking Hills but what. I know I don't want it to be ghosts/werewolves/vampires. I'm not even sure I want it to be supernatural (maybe). I don't want it to be evil hillbillies (overdone) and sure as shit not a virus. ANy thoughts? Anything you might like to see in a horror?
And here are finally my thoughts on this week's Prodigal Son
Honestly a lot of this show failed for me this time which is highly unusual. Maybe a lot is overstating it. I should say the case failed for me and the supporting stuff was a lot of fun.
WHat I did like: Getting a look at Malcolm's past. I actually didn't hate Vijay (other than his name. Of all the Indian names that's the one they pick?) though from twitter I noticed a lot of fans hated him. I thought he was a bit shallow and obnoxious but he did care about Malcolm which is rare. I didn't like he was so casual about breaking the law to get his merchandise back.
I loved Martin. OMG no one should like a serial killer this much (Michael Sheen's even mentioned being a little uncomfortable with how likeable Martin actually is). He's funny, quick witted and such a manipulative bastard this whole episode. Live out her Sapphic dreams, did I give you psoriasis too?
But what I liked best about him is how invested he is in his son. Oh it's not the good kind of invested but it's fascinating. Now that he's brought out Malcolm's violence, he's even more invested in him. He praises Malcolm blackmailing someone (much like he himself is blackmailing Malcolm). I do wonder what he's plotting about Gil because if he CAN reach out to do something he might just do it, especially when not only is his son dependent on Gil so is his wife (I'm calling Gil. And like that the blade turns....)
I love Dani's subtle facial expressions throughout this and JT's absolute inability to handle Edrisa's endless flirting with Malcolm.
So what didn't I like. Seriously the case. For one, these so called expert gang of thieves seem like complete idiots. They meet Vijay openly, no face covering nothing (I mean why even hood him at this point?) They give back his stuff but how do they know he won't just send the damn cops? They sure get angry quick too (mostly because we need Hallucinatory!Martin to pull the trigger on the 'you killed them' guilt trip).
But the things that bugged me more than anything were the little things. Martin seems to be getting a lot more phone time (after they made a big deal of him having spotty phone access). WHY were Jessica and Malcolm even allowed in to see Martin? I mean one of them stabbed them. The administrators know that but they're allowed access to their victim with no guard?? Okay it had to happen so Martin could blackmail them but that made no sense.
Why when the swat team is in Kevlar head to toe, our heroes are only in flak jackets and no helmets? Come on, we know it's them. We don't need to see their beautiful faces all the time.
Speaking of that, WTF is up with the operating scene? Okay we get that weird (and seriously non-existent as I can tell after operating in 6 different states. I'm not sure they've constructed them like that in many many years) let's watch the surgery room but I can handle that. I can even handle the blackmail that gets them into the operating room. But WHY is Vijay there? I can see Malcolm but not both. Also everyone knows you HAVE to wear a damn mask in the OR. Why isn't Malcolm wearing one?!? What I don't expect others to know is wearing street clothes into an OR CONTAMINATES the entire room and it will have to be decontaminated professionally before it can be used again. They just gave that woman a brain infection. Would it have killed anyone to put Malcolm in scrubs for that scene. Hospitals keep them in the change rooms for the OR.
I have to admit Malcolm going off script all the time is getting annoying. At least he called Gil for backup this time.
And then we have Eve. One day I'd like to see Malcolm stand up to his mother. I'm not an Eve fan. I've already completed a huge fanfic with my opinion of Eve. Of course now it's obvious I was on track, she is connected to the Girl in the Box. I'm okay with that. It makes her interesting but that final scene made NO sense. Sorry it just didn't.
I could have handled it a bit better if maybe Jess had gotten an important call she had to take to give her more time. I mean she's just going to put flowers in water. How long is that taking? Does she figure out Eve is gone? (well we wont' know until next week and in the trailer it looks like Malcolm has his sister investigating Eve and I DO like that). So Eve somehow thinks she has all the time in the world to go looking for the box. HOW does she know it's in the basement? How does she even know where the basement in that mansion is. I'm sure the stairs to it isn't just hanging open. WHY the fuck is that trunk still there???
OMG these trunks are killing me. I was upset about it with Watkins (and realizing Malcolm has a trunk at the foot of his bed!!!) why is it still there? If that's the girl in the box trunk, WHY is in the house? If nothing else, IF Watkins had been in that box too, wouldn't it have been taken into evidence? Even 20 years later that trunk could have DNA in it (they weren't that good with DNA in 1998). WHY is it in the house? Jessie burned all the photos but she keeps the girl in the box trunk? Does this make sense?
That said, Eve curling up inside to relive her mother/sister/cousin/aunt's trauma (because while she looks slightly older than Malcolm she's definitely not a decade older, old enough to have been the girl and somehow gotten away) was creepy AF and I liked that but the way it happened didn't work for me. I am however looking forward to it coming to a head (and then Eve never dating Malcolm again).
