So this 2 hour 'advising' training wasn't really about advising. They want us to onboard the students, since we can't do orientations this summer with the lock downs. That means I'm doing everything multiple people would have done (and can't now because they usually do it in front of dozens of students once but there's not enough workers to do each student individually so they kicked it all to the advisors).

But that's not what they told us when they asked for volunteers. when they asked for advising volunteers what they didn't tell us was we're completely onboarding these incoming freshmen. There's no placement tests or High School scores for a lot of them.

I have to use self guided tests to place them. I have to tell them how to find/buy books, how to get into housing, food plans, IDs parking spaces. I have to guide them to financial aid if they don't yet have it, discuss start times etc.

Everything that would have been done in orientation as a group. This is going to likely require Teams or Zoom and be relatively complex and be over ALL summer. I kind of feel like this should have been told to us before we volunteered (as if I wouldn't have been drafted anyhow)

Don't judge but I just contemplated sucking the very expensive rum out of my shirt where I spilled it. It's Thomas Tew rum, a micro-distillery in Newport RI so it's next to impossible to get, created by biochemists who get the chemistry behind it and it's SO DAMN GOOD!

My parents were going to the first all inclusive resort trip to Mexico, leaving today until the shut down. So they're in their resort clothing taking pictures around their house.

I can't even put into order my thoughts about the Prodigal Son finale. Without spoiling anything, it was amazing and I called both of the big twists so I'm pretty proud of myself. If you want to talk about it, PM me!
