Well I found my text book for gen bio. I thought I had brought it inside (I didn't pack it knowing I'd need it a.s.a.p. and I tore up the place looking for it (I mean, there's not that much junk right now so how could it get lost?) Turns out I left the books under the seat of the car and the extreme heat has melted the glue on the bindings. Now they're all setting upright on the A/C vent hoping the glue will reform correctly. Sigh.

Dietary stuff for the diabetics out there, I wanted some peanut butter to make PB and celery sticks so I resigned myself to the crappy nautral PB that tastes funky and you can't even spread. The one thing I learned from the dietician was to look at labels for fiber as well as sugar. On a lark, I picked up my beloved Jiff and it had the exact same amount of sugar in it 2g's. (this is the regular Jiff, the one with honey had over FIVE times that amount of sugar). Ran over to the actual diabetic aisle and looked at the diabetic PB, it also had 2g's of sugar for twice the price. Guess what I bought? Yeah, Jiff.

And on the diabetic front to get more fiber, I bought imported oatmeal from Scotland where they leave all the fiber on it and either grind or steel cut it (instead of rolling it and removing the fiber like we do here) The upshot is it takes longer to cook. I didn't think I could eat the glutenous mass but with some splenda and a touch of milk and honey it was good, no it was really good. The fiber added a taste like we don't have with old Quaker oats. It's worth the 10 minute cook time. Need to add cinnamon (which also lowers blood sugar) to it next time.

And on the path of lowering blood sugar and weight, I checked out Curves for Women (which is the ONLY health club here. can you imagine that, no health clubs in the yellow pages for men) no pool. Called the Y, no pool but they do have water aerobics at the city pool (I'm assuming summer only) Well I can work out for free at the school. I didn't want to use the pool in front of the students but I have no such reservations about jumping on the weight machines. Still deciding (need to go and look at all teh facilities)

I'm totally unable to cut through the shitty clay we have here with a hand trowel so gardening is proving to be a challenge. The little girl across the way started crying thinking I was going to take 'her' pumpkin. I told her she could have it when it was ready. Weeding...found out that all the big weeds in the garden were nettles, went right through my gloves (and taught that little girl some nice swear words in Italian)

And I got my lyric wheel story done. Thanks for the beta A2Zmom and ELD. As for the other stories, I swear I'm trying but this semester the time crunch is gonna be miserable. Once I get the power points done life will be good again but until then...just bear with me.

IIRC, in 101/+ uses for duct tape, fixing a book's spine is right there, baby!

Do you like the soybean butter that's for us PB allergic folks? I think it uses less sugar, but I'm not sure. It does have less fat. Not a lot less, but less.

Curves is good! I did Curves for a year, locally, until my hours got switched.

and nettle: makes a good soup, and, when you dry out the leaves and make tea? it's good for hay fever!!!

Luckily the pages didn't fall out so i think the glue will rehold.

I don't like a lot of the soy products. Soy milk, soy PB. I like it by itself for my prep or as the hamburger and that's about it (and the hamburger is merely because the texture of the real stuff buggs me)

I'd like to do Curves. I'd like it better if they had a pool. If they offer Tai-chi or yoga here I'll do it. I like working out. I like the classes but I can only do water aerobics because of the amount of damage I've done to my body over the years. (both knees, both ankles, one hip and lower spine all have sustained considerable injury)

I have nettle tea actually. I find it vile mind you but I have it.

You know, the college probably has a pool and probably has hours set aside for staff and faculty. Same with the the tai-chi and the yoga.

we have a pool but they made no mention of times without students. That's why I'm not rushing into the gym thing. If they had that time, then problem solved, if not, then I'll weigh the options. We're probably way too small for tai-chi and yoga

LOL about the swear words. At least they were in Italian and when she starts using them no one will know what she's saying :D

Sounds like you're settling in pretty well. Good to hear. I don't blame you for using the student gym for free. Afterall...free.

I'm just hoping there's time set aside for faculty. Of course I'll be insane from powerpointing by then...

You're welcome and now I wanna try this oatmeal! Mmmm, oatmeal.

I find it highly amusing that PB is PB, no matter how "healthy" it is for you.

www.bobsredmill.com if you can't find it in your local store. They have everything you'd find at the pricey yuppie markets (not that they're cheap mind you)

Well Jiff is. Regular Jiff. The creamy honey like I said had 5 times the sugar. Betting that chocolate silk does too

I'll have to check locally at the "big market" to see if they have anything, if not, I'll wind up asking you again, you know, right?

Mom will be thrilled about Jiff. Me, I'm a Peter Pan Peanut Butter kinda girl.
