Quotidian drama

cornerofmadnessThings I saw on the way to work. A) some guy peeing on the side of the road in plain view B) construction crew having right lane closed but arrow showing left lane closed C) someone driving down the wrong way & construction people scrambling to get out of the way & fix the arrow.
So Blackboard is glitching nation wide from what I can tell (probably too much strain on it). I am being bombarded by online students going i'm dropping this class because you're making me come in for exams in person (WTF are you talking about) others are upset about getting too many emails? WTF. Then I realized BB was EMAILING them announcements from years. It wasn't just that they were in the thing from the past they were being sent as if it was now. You know back with the class was face2face not online. OMFG. I had to email everyone and then I had to get those announcements OFF the site.
You can't batch delete announcements on Blackboard. An Ultra Glitch had 85 announcements in one section of Pathophysiology and 225 in another (same damn class so go figure why the different #) They're confusing my students. I have to delete all by hand. I couldn't get them done for hours.
Then I discovered The post office hasn't been delivering my mail including stuff emailing me to tell me it's arrived. Unsurprisingly you can't get thru to them on the phone. I suspected this much as I haven't had anything since the day I came back when I told them to resume service. I hope the fuck I can call tomorrow because I'm not sure I have time to run out there. Sobs.
And then I had to make that face you make when a one-time reasonable family member starts telling you no one without problems is going to die from Covid-19. I should have put a block on Fox News when I back home. Dad was SO mad that I suggested these kids and myself are at risk. I mean he was SHRIEKING at me. I'm like wtf is wrong with you and then started screaming because I suggested Verizon et al should stop making new Gs (4G, 5G) in select cities and as a group start bringing internet to EVERYONE. I mean even HARVARD says @ 40% of their students don't have adequate email for online classes ( You can read about here.)
Yes Dad you used to put up cell towers for a living. FIFTEEN years ago. You have no idea what we're capable of now (much like i told the student today who asked for foot surgery advice. I was honest, I've been out of it 20 years, I don't know recovery rates any more. I don't assume things are the same a they were like you do, Dad). I didn't mean it would happen overnight. No one said that. I said it needs to start happening. And it needs to.
And the internet does us a huge disservice by deciding you want more of the same sort of articles, rather than presenting a balance. People like Dad will end up ONLY seeing pro-Trump articles. People like me would only see Trump is the antiChrist (well yeah he is) articles. And that IS a disservice because probably on Dad's computer the Atlantis article on Trump calling servicemen losers for dying in the war would never show up and he should see that.
Gah, enough of that nonsense.
Also today the lab was over 90. The students were light headed. I got sick to my stomach.
This is not a day that has gone well. Other than I did write a little bit. That's the one good thing for the day.

Ugh, your dad. We really do need more internet service for everyone, not just faster in select areas. I used to be so mad when Verizon would show their coverage map and I was like, we still don't have more than dial-up! Also, has he not heard about how many schools are opening and immediately having to close?!! A college near us, in the boonies, opened, had 100 cases of covid and is now online for the fall.
I just heard about that article this morning and immediately shared it on facebook. He disgusts me anyway, but that article made me sick to my stomach, the things he says.

I KNOW. Both of my parents are like shrug, so what if people get it, most people survive. I'm banging my fucking head. I'm waiting for us to flip online.
And yeah Ihave no coverage here either.
Trump disgusts me in general but I really hope his people HEAR this because a lot of conservative vets support him.
