Lullabies

Spike/Dru – Carnival 1920

“I’m not bloody doing it, pet. It’s demeaning.” Spike crossed his arms, leaning against a pole in the carnival midway.

“But Spike, how will she know you love her?” Dru pouted at him.

“I don’t love her. She’s just a piece of celluloid I just won for you.” Spike gestured at the Kewpie doll he had knocked down pins to win. Dru insisted winning it made it special.

Fat tears rolled down her face as she cradled the doll.

“Buggar this.” Spike sang Dru’s lullaby to the doll. He’d eat anyone who laughed.

Dru beamed, kissing him softly in reward.

Buffy -  Jealousy   S 5

Being a big sister was a strange thing sometimes. She could remember how jealous she was when Mom and Dad had brought Dawn home. The feeling intensified the first time she heard her mother singing a lullaby to put the baby to sleep. How dare Mom? That was her song, hers alone.

Mom had patiently explained how helpless Dawnie was and how she needed her big sister to protect her. Shaking off the cobwebs of memory, Buffy looked at Dawn, asleep on the couch, her body still tense, fighting subconscious fears. Glory would never touch Dawn. Buffy wouldn’t allow it.

Angel Cast -  Dad Stuff  - S 3

“Why won’t he stop crying?” Angel moaned, rocking Connor. “I’ve tried everything. His diaper’s clean. He’s napped. He’s full.”

“Babies cry, Angel. It’s what they do,” Fred replied.

”But I even sang him a lullaby and he won’t stop screaming.”

“You sang?” Cordelia’s eyes were wide with horror.

“Too-la-roo-la-roo-la.”

“The kid’s scarred for life.” Gunn wagged his head.

“I’m not that bad.” Angel scowled.

“Angelcakes, next time the little muffin needs a lullaby, get a professional,” Lorne said.

“But…I’m his dad. Singing lullabies is what we’re supposed to do,” Angel pouted. “Maybe I just need to sing it louder.”

Lorne – Disturbing    S 3

Lorne looked at the little life in his hands. There was something wrong with it, something deep that frightened him. Angel’s son patted his chin with a tiny hand. He looked so innocent. What was it that sent shivers up his spine and gave him an ache deep in his butt?

Connor was an ugly baby, all pink and soft without so much as a horn bud to improve his looks but maybe all human babies looked like that.  It was the fact that the baby didn’t like Lorne’s lullabies that disturbed him. Was Angel positive his son had a soul?

Holtz – Becoming His   S3 Quor-Toth

Holtz ran a finger through his son’s fine hair as he helped the boy wash up. Bathing invited sickness, everyone knew that but Steven had gotten so messy making his first kill it was needed.

Holtz looked at the child. He couldn’t be more than three and already the killer instinct was coming out. What could he expect given the boy’s parentage? Still, he had come to think of Steven as his own. It was easy to do. Wasn’t it only yesterday he was cradling the boy in his arms, quieting him with lullabies so the demons wouldn’t find them?

Loved Lorne's reaction to Connor. And Fred and Gunn's to Angel's singing. Buffy's thoughts on Dawn were great too.

Really nice job on this whole set. I think Lorne's thoughts on Connor was my favorite this week but they were all excellent.

Wow, these were nice! The Angel one was both funny and touching at the same time.

I have a bit of an obsession with lullabies. The old traditional ones tend to be so creepy when you come to think of the lyrics and I love collecting lullabies sung in films, especially those sung by children. They have a really haunting quality to them. < /bothersome rambling>

You're welcome ^-^

And oops, sorry, I didn't know you were looking for lullabies! And yeah, if you ever need any go ahead and ask, I don't have an enourmous collection or anything but I do have a few and am always trying to increase the number of them that I've got :)

I used the Braham's lullaby...creepy. What's up with the baby dying motif?

*thinks* i dunno if I know that one :/ *sigh* liking something does not make me a connosieur (and I KNOW i spelled that wrong XD). But babies dying tend to be a recurring thing in lullabies, take Rock-a-by Baby for instance! I read once that it was cause of the high infant mortality rate there used to be, and I guess that that does kind of make sense.

that's what I've read too. I take that back, Brahams isn't creepy dead baby it's the other type, the religious kind

Understandable, completely.

Hey, with your new system, do you get the Cartoon Network so you can see the shows that Silvrethorn and I've been drooling about?

In another county? That sounds as bizarre as the trouble Mom had mailing Moo's b-day card.
