Tripleyeby John Hegenberger (I think) It's a private eye/space opera mash up which I needed for Popsugar challenge. I met the author at Ohioana book fest. I remember liking him and thinking this was good. It would have been except for the fact he kept calling Asians Orientals and there is one chapter of trans bashing for no reason
What I'm Reading Now
The Snowdonian murders and Spock, Messiah. The first is for the Popsugar Prompt a place you want to be. I want to be back in Wales. It's also a decent mystery/police procedural so far. I have had the Star Trek book for eons (reading it for oldest book in the TBR pile), two authors, an unknown one claiming to a ST authority but Scotty is redhaired and Saurian brandy is green. Side eyes the book.
What I'm Reading Next Surely something for either the Popsugar or other challenges.
I haven't talked yet about the second half of S2 and I need to circle back but let me say I loved the finale with caveats.
The biggest caveat is the plot contrivances to have the Marshals assume Vivian Capshaw is innocent and that Martin AND Malcolm kidnapped her. One - two episodes they made a big deal of police (ie. JT) in Jessica's house and a wire tap so how did they miss Vivian calling and telling Jess that she had Martin which Jess doesn't confess to until Malcolm becomes a wanted man Two - Dani HEARD Ainsley's recording of Vivian telling Malcolm she'd take him to his father. Where did that go? Three- the only fingerprints on the knife used to cut Viv were her own. Come on.
That said I loved the girl fight between her and Jess so I'm glad that happened.
How Malcolm will talk his way out of not turning in his father when he blatantly could have will be an interesting issue for S3 should someone new buy Pson.
I loved all the scenes with Malcolm and Martin. They were amazing.
I knew this would end with either one of them killing the other (or trying to) or Dani/JT/Gil having to shoot Martin. I wasn't surprised by this. On the other hand it's causing an instant rift in the fandom (even though we don't know if there'll be an S3). So many are upset Malcolm stabbed him.
To me this is pure self defense. Martin would have killed him. He's stabbed his father before for less reason. I'm not so sure what to make of it but to me self defense is a good reason. Though the showrunners are teasing if we get S3 this will be a problem for Dani which makes no sense. She KNEW how much he wanted his father to be taken alive. She has to know he didn't purposely try to kill him.
On the other hand I have huge problems with Malcolm manipulating and gaslighting Martin into TORTURING another person to get what he wants. There could have been other ways to find the girl but not easily that's true. What Malcolm does here crosses a line that he might not be able to come back from when we get S3 (if we get it)
This article and This one tease the idea of will Martin survive (in a hypothetical S3) or will he be only a hallucination in Malcolm's mind.
Man I do NOT want the latter. I think we would lose too much if that's the case. I don't think Malcolm stabbing his father loses any power if Martin survives. I don't want artificial angst either (Dani hating him for the stabbing, Ains hatting him for the stabbing) and I'm already over him hallucinating his father. Sigh.
In other news someone sent flowers to my apartment. The two old ladies who look out for me texted me to tell me that. Whoever you are thanks and I'm sorry I'm not there to see them.
