Mostly all I managed was to watch it rain (thankfully lightly so the creek didn't flood) and get to the grocery store since everything fresh here is long gone. It rained too much to empty the car of the rest of the stuff I brought from Mom and Dad's. I did get some of it in but that's okay because it's hard for me to put the stuff away

I also got the rough draft down of my revised parasitology class which is good. I also lucked into being able to push my Welsh presentation back to the spring because the other research fellow (the current one) couldn't do her research either thanks to covid. That's a relief.

It is a huge struggle to get off my low couch. I tried to put the big pillows on it but hen I can't get comfy. This is very disappointing.

Speaking of which, fair warning, if you are going to share non-scientific anti-vaccination stuff I'm not going to say word one to you. It's your journal. You do you. On the other hand as a doctor and a scientist, I can not look past this. Misinformation and anti vaccination stances are killing people. What I WILL do is just unfriend you, no fuss, no muss, no warning. You can go on being you without me having to see it.

For your couch... if you have a local handy-person (or can afford to hire someone), when I had my hip replacement done, the hubby built 'risers' of what look like a set of 3 4x6 pieces of wood for the chair I sit in.

He's in construction, so he drilled holes for the legs to sit in so the chair won't slide when I sit in it, so it's solid. The actual rise is the 2 bottom pieces of wood, since the legs sit in the top piece. (I can send you a picture if you need!) I had the surgery like 2 1/2 years ago now, but I like sitting up higher. He said he would have made it nicer looking if he had known I'd keep it, but it's also behind an ottoman so it's mostly hidden.

Your major expense would be time, the wood can be scrap from other projects, but it's not hard work. Just someone who will do it right, so your couch doesn't slide around. But it's also cheaper than a new couch... ;-)

Glad you're home safely!

There's a story there somewhere... ;-)

Malcolm whines about all the pillows that have collected in his apartment. "Why do I need all these?" he asked as he finds yet another place to stash them out of the way. The closet already has as many as he can fit and the stack in the corner is 'artful' and not-quite-chaos.

Then comes the not-quite-right knee and the deeply bruised hip after yet another perp manhandles him. The otherwise-comfortable couch is too low to get off of without resorting to falling to the floor and then heaving himself upright using the coffee table.

Then he remembers the pillows. He winces as he reaches for the last set under the couch. It takes some Tetris moves to use them to prop up the cushions of the couch. Sitting down is easy. But there's now enough height so he can -- relatively easily -- stand up without resorting to gymnastics.

But now that he's sitting down... maybe he'll stay here for a while...

It's probably best that the weather is keeping you from overdoing it! *g*

I'm glad you found a solution to your low-couch issue.

I'm often more surprised than I should be that there are people on here who don't support lgbtq equality (especially when I know they read slash), who support Trump and who are anti-vaxxers. I guess I just expect more from people who are in the same corner of fandom as me, and I'm hit with the rude awakening when they say something that leaves me going o_Oo_O

I had some non-LJ/DW person (they signed their name, but it was an anon comment) leave a bunch of anti-vax, climate-change denial comments in my journal a few weeks ago. I wish now that I'd been even ruder to them than I was. I am done with their bullshit.
