Small Business Saturday
Nov. 27th, 2021 08:59 pmApparently this is not something they're familiar with here. Half the small b usinesses were closed including the tea shop. The only open little stores were the over priced soap store, the high end jewelry store (and I don't need a diamond ring) and the craft store which is pretty much all country crafts. No one I know likes that stuff. Oh well. I did see the salon/art store was open but by then I was annoyed. Maybe next week.
I did get to the gym and picked up another charity card. After this year I feel like paying back. I wanted to get one for a boy but they only had girls so back after Barbie and puzzles (this girl is 9). I saw young girls pretending to be homeless for charity outside the store and figured I'd give them something afterwards. Christ Barbie is awful. I hated her as a girl. If I had had a girl there apparently wouldn't have been any damned Barbies. I did manage to find a 'you can be anything' set for her (probably made reluctantly under pressure) where apparently anything means you can make records for a living. Given the other two sets was Barbie grocery shopping and Barbie getting her nails done, that seemed the least obnoxious choice. I got her some puzzles but then forgot about the 'homeless girls' which seems painfully ironic.
However two of them came into the coffee shop while I was there writing. Turns out they're the local cheerleaders raising money for the homeless so I got to give them something there.
Got more papers graded so go me and got some gross slides made up for the leeches and maggots parasitology lecture and traded emails with the dean. I'm getting shit done!
I'm finally getting to the new Doctor Who Flux mini series. I had been dragging my heels because I don't care for Jodie Whittaker (it's not me not liking a female Doctor. I hated her in Broadchurch too). The opening is pretty good though. I like the new companion and Yaz's being fed up with the Doc.
Snippet Pelting along the woodland path, Dan pushed himself harder. His gut ached but he forced himself to ignore it. Pain couldn’t stop him. His team needed him. He’d been in the hospital for weeks. He’d had to withdraw from all his classes. The summer had been spent recovering from his injuries. Running was not something he enjoyed but it was needed for his work. Today it proved he was more than his injuries. He could rise from the ashes. No, he had shaken off the ashes and was stronger on the other side of them.
Dan pounded along, out of the woods, racing toward the campus roads. Sweat soaked into his headband and drenched his long hair even though he had pulled it up to try and keep himself cool. August was no one’s friend as far he was concerned. Classes had started just two days before. The summer had been hard, ugly and now he wasn’t looking forward to classes, knowing he’d be behind the friends he made within his program. No one had been assigned to their team to replace Laura. He didn’t know why unless maybe they were waiting to see if he’d need to be replaced as well, taken out before he had truly begun.
