Free Comic Books
May. 7th, 2022 09:45 pmI didn't know that the rain was so bad overnight but my apartment flooded, mud and branches everywhere but no real damage. Later (after I'm on my way home I learn Huntington had a 100 year flood yesterday and that's why one road was entirely under water...)
I had to pass on HIllbilly Hotdog because WAY too many people. The comic book store didn't have anything really going on for Free Comic book day so I just grabbed everything I wanted and bought a few things. One I hope I don't have (looks like a new Corinthian story for Sandman and I do love him so)
I hit Michael's next and get all the frames I wanted (turns out one is broken in a corner but honestly the thing cost 8$ it might be that much in gas to return it). One frame doesn't fit because I didn't realize that what I thought was a stabilizer is a cruddy matte (very ugly) so I measured wrong.
From there I went to Home Good/TJ Maxx and that's when it hits me it's also the day before Mother's Day and OMG the people in there. I swear they were giving it away but I broke my sunglasses and TJ's carries good ones.(I had to put my mask on, too many people). I ended up with two pairs and some various food stuffs (mostly Italian cookies) I wanted this big ass dragon garden thing but it's resin which means it'll break in a year or two from the sun so no to 80$ for that.
Macy's proved to be a treasure trove. Well no dress clothes. They were ugly. However I found Ideology jogging pants and hoodies. I picked up a blue hoodie for 9$ and the pants? 4.73 each. Yeah they have cuffs I hate (because I'm tall and it's very obvious they barely fit with cuffs) but under 5$ I took them both. I didn't even care one is coral pink.
Panera's had only boring bagels and two cinnamon ones so I grabbed them. Chilis had no space at the bar to eat (at 4 pm) and he wouldn't even take my name as a single (just wait for the bar, it's your best, quickest bet) But I saw a) plenty of tables empty but uncleaned so I know they have no help b) everyone at the bar is just starting their food.
I left, went to the usual Mexican place when I'm down there but the quality has been going down as the prices have gone up. Today however was very yummy, grilled shrimp/pineapple tacos.
At Booksamillion I DID buy the expensive hard cover Something is Killing the Children graphic novel at 50$. They had the paperbacks too (the hardcover is 4 of them together) and they're 20$ a piece so I'm saving like 30$ by buying it this way. I hope I like it but you know what last time I spent 20$ on a manga that I turned out not to like Burn the Witch which I just finished last night and realize after the fact it's by Tite Kubo who wrote Bleach! they're using crosses for the T's so my dyslexia couldn't make sense of his name and honestly it wasn't that good.
I did give thought to getting another manga but BaM was also filled with mothers and kids so I was not going to stand there with a manga called Dick Fight Island with the tagline whoever comes first loses. (good choice since a little girl wouldn't leave me alone in the line. She seems to like me)
And the best part of today was I was away from the Kentucky Derby. A year ago the first day at my parents I sat on the couch for the derby and could not get back up. I was in terrible pain and realized that I had left the hospital too soon. I was not ready to be on my own, barely able to walk but I had gotten through all inpatient PT could do so the insurance is like out you go. So now the derby has become a bad mental trigger for me at least for now.
