Made it to PA. It was a lovely day for a drive.

I'm curious, how do you all show comfort in fiction? My characters are all SO touchy feely. I'm like why oh why is my brain like this? I don't even like being touched yet my go-to is always a comforting hand on the shoulder/arm/wrist. I find that strange and wondered what others did to show comfort. And after the day I had (the drive was fine but everything else was not) this is about as much thinky thoughts I can come up with.

I wrote an interlocking series of five stories of the exact same length for [community profile] getyourwordsout's Yahtzee challenge. If you want to see them, you can find it starting here. It's the Owl House

That's me too. I am not much for physical comfort, but I love to write about it. I write a lot of hugs and bed-sharing for comfort in my stories.

Generally, the hand on the shoulder, squeezing the arm, etc. is my go-to. In my most recent fic, I had one character rub the other one's back (sick-fic, the injured party has food poisoning).

Non-contact comfort gestures - a phone call, text, a gift of some sort of object the injured party could cling to. If they're trying to forget someone (or not dwell on memories), a day out away from the reminders. Making art- sculpting would be good. Something physical- a run out with a friend, dancing, or even boxing. Basically whatever would get the character into a familiar setting where they feel loved and/or in control.
