cornerofmadness: (everythings fine)

It feels like it's real. I am SO regretting volunteering to do this steam camp. I have little to no interest in dealing with young teens and I'm putting more work into this than I do my own stuff for very little return. Yes I hope the kids have fun and learn stuff but this isn't something I can use again for much (though that one game might be fun for learning organs) I put in an 8 hour day and it's just the tip of the iceberg. I didn't think this through before going out west and to the steampunk thing this week. It's way more work than I thought it would be. I've spent the last two hours reading the rules to the various games I bought for this and I have one more to go.

At the least I found a few free powerpoints and what have you so that's a load off. I will be back out at the uni tomorrow, trying to get this stuff printed and ready and the stuff I spent 3 hours buying needs to be taken down there and I need to see if it works.

I also had to fire up the dying laptop so I tried to get my discord email changed because the one I have is NOT allowing verification codes to go thru (I'm slowly but surely changing all my credit cards off that email for the same reason) and you can't change you discord email without a verification code going to the current email. head fucking desk. I tried to put in my cell phone so I can get a code that way but the computer froze on me. I will try tomorrow.

Speaking of my stupid cell phone, I have buyer's regret there too. It's a motorola. Do you know most phone cases are either for galaxies or iphones and neither fit a moto? Whee.

So I can't even REMEMBER the meta I wanted to do on Tuesdays now so let me put this fannish bit out there: What is your favorite episode where it breaks its own canon but you don't give a crap because it's otherwise enjoyable (but you still wish it hadn't done that)

Here's three of mine: Prodigal Son's Alma Mater has multiple canonical breaks in it. It's still an enjoyable episode and I suspect that part of it happened because they had to rewrite it on the fly thanks to Frank Harts ending up in Covid quarantine. We know Malcolm Bright has a hand tremor. It's been there since episode one. Season One established it as a result of the police grilling him (without his mom in spite of the fact he was 10 but that's another meta post in and of itself) In fact that bad detective knows him as an adult because of the tremor. However Alma Mater (S2) tried to make it related to something in high school.

The Owl House has two episodes like this that I can think of off the top of my head. Any Sport in a Storm is a great episode with a big character arc for two of the main side characters (and a couple of the truly minor ones as well). It's one of my favorite episodes in the series. It's unusual in that Luz (the main character) is barely in it. She and Amity have been sent off on a rather lame side quest to make room for Willow and Hunter's big arcs.

Hunter shows up showing off his flying skills (omg his cardinal socks!) where Willow (who basically kidnaps him twice before he returns the favor) puts his showy style to use for her cause. Hunter flies out, standing on his staff like a surf board, doing aerials off the staff and capturing it again in a hand stand. Meanwhile, to make a point, Gus also rides his staff like a surfboard doing twirls off it and Hunter's all blown away....like he hadn't done the same thing no more than five minutes ago. His reaction honestly makes no sense (and I'm sorry we never saw a 'dance off' with these two)

In Thanks to Them (S3E1), we have one helluva opening montage (in a pretty stellar episode that had to set the entire stage for the truncated third season, screw you Disney). It gives us a brazen LGBT scene (yay for that) and then a sweet/cute scene of Amity being afraid of the rain (in the demon realm it boils and leaves scalds) and Luz trying to coax her out into it (and the boys plow right over each other being boys) The problem? The S2 season ender the kids arrive in the human realm in the pouring rain. Amity and all of them KNOW the rain won't hurt them. It's like did Amity forget? Did she think every third rain will boil? It honestly makes no sense but the scene is still cute (but yeah I still wish it didn't happen)

How did you end up volunteering for something like that? I've done volunteer work in the past but found it quite emotionally and socially draining. I would however like to do a bit more in the future, but maybe less face to face time.

Oh my. It's a shame he didn't actually ask, but hopefully you won't be pushed into these sorts of things in the future.
