I rarely buy from Amazon and mostly it's stuff I wouldn't need to return. But I'm working on my cosplay so I had a lot of stuff come in. One were a pair of slippers I can't use and then there was a tablet case for my tablet but I needed year 2019 and it was 2018. ugh. Didn't fit. So off we went to return it.

Also I might have stopped at Michael's with a 20% off coupon and a 5$ voucher and overpaid for Lemax house for my Halloween town. Okay I was there 2 weeks ago and they were just getting it in. There was THREE houses left. Have i mentioned this nonsense is 50-150$ a house?!? Wow.

I wrote something I shouldn't have today but it wouldn't leave me alone so here you go. It's the first chapter of something

Chapter One

Hunter held his hands over the fire. When was the last time he was warm instead of knee deep in snow? Knee, seems appropriate since you’re camping on the Knee. He hadn’t wanted the fire, hoping to find a more sheltered spot in the ruins but a Slitherbeast had been lurking about. They needed the fire to help keep it at bay but if Snapdragon’s band of supporters were here in the Knee as the report claimed, it would surely alert them. He and Steve had roughed it many times as part of their training. Katya hadn’t but she remained steadfast without complaining as they hiked, flew, and otherwise worked their way through the woods. He had his staff back. Raine had scrounged it off the street after the debacle with invading Belos’s mind with wild magic. They and Darius had the forethought to stash it outside the castle. It felt strange riding it again after Flapjack.

No, I’m not thinking about Flap. Not going to cry here. Tears will freeze to your face. His attempt to make himself laugh, failed. His brain circled back to the when he was last warm. Willow might actually still be mad at him all these days later. He’d left her with her dads who were not in any way shape or form going to allow her to come with him and Steve on a dangerous mission, even though Katya was there, making him feel like a spare griffin. Nothing like being on a mission with a couple when you weren’t part of the couple. He hadn’t wanted Willow in this much danger either, even knowing how tough she was. She hadn’t been a scout or the Golden Guard. She hadn’t done damage to their home thinking she’d been doing good like him and Steve. Willow had nothing to atone for like he did.

“Snail for your thoughts,” Katya said. “You look worked up, Hunter.”

“He is not good at relaxing.” Steve snorted.

“Channel Steve, be sedate.” Katya gave him a fangy grin.

“I don’t do sedate, just ask Steve.”

“He doesn’t even know the definition of the word.” Steve waved them off.

“Hmm, how about you think of somewhere nice, somewhere aquatic where you can relax by the waves. I’ve heard down by the Ankle the water is cool enough to wade into it,” Katya said.

“It is but…” Hunter made a face. “Thinking about water is making me think about the last time any of us have seen soap.”

Steve thinned his lips. “Hunter, when we get back, you and I need to have a long talk about the proper way to speak to women.”

“Why wait?” Katya rolled her eyes.

Hunter let out an exasperated sound.

“Don’t give me that look. Trust me, it shows that you were cooped up in the castle not interacting with anyone all your life.” Steve held up a hand. “That’s not an insult, just a fact.”

Hunter sighed, his shoulders sinking, trying to make himself smaller. “Luz and the others said the same thing.”

“Don’t worry, you’ll keep learning. I guess we can work on that or find other things to eat up some time before we try to get a little sleep,” Steve said.

“Work on that later,” Hunter grumbled, embarrassed in spite of knowing they were trying to help. “If it wouldn’t draw attention, I’d say I’d like to hear your music, Katya. I enjoyed hearing Raine play…when they didn’t know I was there.”

“They don’t like an audience.” Katya shook her head. “I play tambourine, not really a solo instrument anyhow. I know, to kill time, I could use you two as a sounding board for my new fanfic about a jar of fire bee honey and a jug of apple blood falling in love.”

“Are you-”

“Learn how to talk to women before you finish that statement,” Steve warned.

“There’s nothing wrong about food falling in love.” Katya’s glare could have melted snow.

“Just not something I’ve thought about writing fanfic for,” Hunter replied which yes was much more diplomatic than Are you insane?

She leaned closer to the fire. “You write fanfic too?”

“No but I was thinking about writing some for Chief O’Bailey and Captain Avery. It’s a book and movie series in the human realm.”

Katya drummed on her knees. “Cool. We could read for each other.”

“We’ll see. I might never have time with these missions and the whole rebuilding.” Hunter scowled, as he rubbed the scarred cartilage of his ear. The cold made it ache terribly. Also getting roped into reading food fanfic sounded sort of awful.

“You okay?” Katya cocked her head. “I don’t mean to stare but you came back from the human realm with more scars than you left. Sorry, that’s rude. I don’t need you to tell me what happened.”

“It’s okay. I don’t mind. Belos did it when he possessed me. Most of my scars were from him.”

Steve narrowed his eyes. “I’ve been on missions with you where it was expressly stated you weren’t permitted to be tended by a healer. I never understood that. It was implied that it was your wish.”

Hunter shrugged. “In some ways, it was. He’d convinced me it was weakness to do otherwise, that I would only learn through pain.”

“That is not the way to learn much of anything.” The heat in Steve’s tone took him by surprise.

“I suppose not.” Hunter rubbed his arms before putting another piece of wood on the fire. “There were a lot of things I wish I could have said to Belos. I did manage to say some of them and that helps. I wish I could have told him. Scars speak more loudly than the sword that caused them. I saw that quote in the human realm and it stuck with me. Amity’s siblings offered me a concealment stone. I turned it down. These scars tell the story of my life. Belos was the sword that carved a lot of them in me but in the end, I’m the one who’s here. It took me a while to wake up to the harm Belos was doing and these scars remind me of-”

Hunter broke off, leaping to his feet as the trees suddenly moved. Tendrils lashed out, flailing wildly. One landed in the fire sending sparks everywhere. Steve and Katya moved as one. She had her tambourine in hand, sending her magic in the direction of the tendrils. A few of Snapdragon’s minions went racing away from the clearing. Hunter grabbed his staff, sending a swatch of energy into the woods. Terra Snapdragon wouldn’t be here in the Knee, too rough for her if he had to guess, but stopping her men would do just as well.

Steve fought harder than Hunter remembered him ever doing. They had Terra’s witches on the run. He swirled his staff, taking out another older witch. He barely had time to react to Katya screaming his name. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted the tendril shooting his eye seconds before it tore into his gut.

Hunter shrieked, blood pouring out of the hole left behind as Katya stunned the plant witch. He collapsed, trying to staunch the flow. His face, half buried in snow, froze instantly. The next thing he knew, Steve was at his side and sounds of battle quieted.

“Hang on, Hunter. I have you.” Steve held his hand over Hunter’s abdomen, a warm magic enveloping him.

Steve has all magic, he can heal…. Hunter fought to keep awake.

“What the?”

Hunter’s last conscious thought was Steven looks shocked. He knows what I am!
