I went to a Buffy Symposium 18months ago -- November 2002. Unfortunately, all the people -- top scholars in cinema studies -- were Spuffy Spike Redemptionista Fangirls, and insisted that Spike was redeemed by the end of season five and dismissed the attempted rape with "he wouldn't have done it" when talking about how hard-done by Spike was in season six and how Buffy used and abused the poor, innocent guy.

Guess who bit her tongue all through the thing? It was being held by one of Australia's top universities and it was packed -- people sitting in the aisles -- and I didn't think me challenging her to a smack-down would have helped much.
